Hi! My family and I are currently in the process of moving and we have decided to get rid of a lot of furniture items and other household items before we go. I know there are plenty of families out there that are in need I just don't know how to find them. I tried going through a charity but they were not interested. So, I thought I would try here. Do any of you know of a family or families that are really in need of these items. We even have an old vehicle that we are giving away. I would really like to help someone out instead of seeing these items go to the dump or giving them to a donation center where they will be sold. Thank you for any response that you can give.

What can I do next?

You can put the items on freerecycle.com or call your local Salvation Army.

Hi S.,

My name is S. and I am a social worker at PSI Family Services. It is a social service agency that works with foster children and developmentally disabled adults in the DC and MD area. Several of the families I work with are in need of household items to make their homes stable and safe in order for their children to remain in or return to their care. And a vehicle would be really great! I'm not sure if these items are still available, but if they are I would love them for my clients. Please feel free to contact me at ____@____.com or ____@____.com or ###-###-####.

Thank you!!
S. Wilson

Hello S., my husband has recently started a non-profit that provides housing for males with and without children. He provides mental health services and life skills training so that within one year they will be able to live independently and support themselves and their children. He is definitely in need of furniture, household items and even the vehicle. He runs his business off of grants alone and currently houses three males. His building can house more than 6 but it is not furnished for that amount of people. We would definitely appreciate anything you would be willing to donate. The name of the business is My Brother's Keeper Transitional Living Services, LLC. My email is ____@____.com and my husband is ____@____.com or ____@____.com would be willing to pick up to the items you have. THanks so much!

Congratulations of your move! I have found a wonderful way to give items to people who can use them instead of throwing more stuff in to the dumpster. I have joined freecycle.org. It's free to join your local chapter of it. Everything on the site is free, the recipient only needs to pick it up. We have given away a lot of left over construction materials from when we had some work done here at the house (perfectly good mold resistant drywall). I have seen people offer dining room sets, washers and driers, books, anything you can think of. Give it a try.
