Hi all, I am looking for a diaper that does not leak when my son is sleeping. He is 2.7 years old, weighs about 31-32 lbs. We can't seem to find a diaper that doesn't leak and get the bed wet. It doesn't happen every night(even naps sometimes) but as we all know what a pain when it does!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow, lots of responses and great advice. I have serveral new things to try. Looks like one of the easiest things to try is to make sure that his penis is pointed down in the diaper. That is something that is a great "need to know" thing for boys. Thank you so much to everyone!!

We use BumGenius diapers for my daughter. They are washable and never leak at night! I think you can even buy them at Target now!

I had this problem with my oldest daughter. I used Huggies. What size is he in? He may also need a size up. Sometimes we don't realize that we need to go up a size.

Hi, well, the best diapers I have found for any occasion day or night are the Costco Brand. They are cheaper than most and bring more. Now that my son is 3 we are still in the process of potty training and before he goes to sleep I sit him in the toilet and then he uses the pull ups for night only protect better than regular pullups. I know they are expensive but they work for me. If not try the
Costco ones, they are sold in I think all costco's. I Also found Huggies are good but I liked the Costco ones better, they brought more and cheaper. But I think they are both good!! Good luck!

I don’t know if this will help or not but we were having the same problem so my son wears at night Pampers Cruisers size 6 (he's 17 months old but he’s 34 inches tall and weighs 33lbs). We try to make sure his bottoms of his jammies are more fitting and make sure the waist of his jammies are around the tabs of the diaper if we pull the waist all the way up over the diaper he is guaranteed to be wet in the morning. Now we do not have this problem for naps, but over night has been a lot of trial and error as he usually sleeps 12-14 hours a night. I went with the size 6 diapers because I find they can hold about 28-32oz of water (about 4 sippy straw cups). During the day and for his nap he wears a size 5 in huggies.

HTH!

We use white cloud diapers in my house and I rarely have leaking problems. I have found that when my 2 year old gets more than a couple ounces to drink within the last hour before bed, he has wetter diapers and sometimes they get too wet.

Try limiting his fluid intake before bed as he is getting pretty close to potty training age and you don't want to have bed wetting problems when that time comes.

Good luck.

Believe it or not the best diaper I found (and I had tried the name brand diapers) was Parents Choice in the yellow package from Walmart. These diapers were the best when it came to how they fit and being leak proof.

I tried the same diaper that comes in the big box but as soon as you open the box and look at one you can tell the quality is different so I only bought the ones in the package (just like you would buy any of the name brands).

Hi L., My son is 2&1/2 years old and he wears Huggies size 5 overnights. He was diagnosed with cancer when he was 1 years old and he would drench his crib at night and on the days that he received chemo, he would drench his clothes and mine while I held him for the 5 hour IV drip. We started using the Huggies overnights on his chemo days and they worked for us. I would put a fresh one on and 5 hours later, I would change him for the 1&1/2 hour car ride home.

We still use them on him at night. He still sleeps 12 hours at night and sometimes he does leak through, but only on a few occasions. Hope this helps. T. :)

If you have your normal diaper that you like to use all other times, just try a bigger size at night. Leaking was always the biggest clue that they're ready to go up a diaper size for my kids.

We have these great things from Onestepahead.com - i think they're called sheet savers - they cover the part of the bed where your child sleeps, tuck under on both sides - soft very absorbent with a waterproof backing -if the bed gets wet, you pull it off and put the new one on -it is sooo much easier than changing the sheets, mattress pad, etc. Our is under the fitted sheet, but it is soft enough to use over it if your child doesn't mind seeing it.

For us, Pampers Cruisers were hands down the best - what I used to do was put my son in a bigger size for night time -he wore 6 in the day and 7's at night before he was potty trained. He still needs nighttime protection - even though I am a Pampers mom all the way -Huggies Goodnites are the best at night. The small size say they are for 35lbs. and up but my son wore them at like 31 pounds and they worked (and still do work) great!. Also, the diaper doublers at Publix help with regular diapers if you dont want to move into the goodnites (which are not exactly pull ups they are nighttime'underwear' for bedwetting preschoolers - Pampers makes underjams which is almost the same -much softer and nicer looking but they leaked for us).

Good luck...also we try to give our son his last milk by 5/5:30 and only little bits of water if he's thirtsy before bed -this seems to help too.

I noticed that someone else mentioned White Cloud diapers, and those are the ones that worked best for us too. We tried every other diaper we could find, and they all leaked except those. And the really good thing about that is that they're the cheapest too. You can find them at Wal-mart.

I didn't have much luck with the "overnight" diapers. Our son was 34 lbs and slept 12+ hours at night when he was 2 and a half. Huggies Supreme size 6 worked best for us. I do think leakage has a lot to do with the shape of your child so you might try a couple different brands. Good luck!

We use diaper doublers. They are like a long pad you can put in any diaper you want to use. They are sold at Publix, though I am sure they are found elsewhere. It is the only thing that helps stop the night leaks.

Hi L.,

My son is 2 years, 5 months old and he is potty trained...day and night. I'm curious if you've started potty training? I would suggest those pull-ups for night time. They are far more absorbent for a toddler than an ordinary diaper. Good luck.

Be careful with diapers that hold a lot of liquid in. That gel has been known to lead to genital cancers. You can do research on that online. Have you tried cloth diapers with extra hemp liner inserts? They can be washed at home and absorb a lot naturally. Cloth is nothing like in the past, they are in the shape of the disposable ones and are much better for the child and also important, the environment. motherease has some great ones and you can find some new types on ebay for a fraction of the price. Good luck

Hi L.! The disposable diapers that we use are from 7th generation...and I really doubt they would hold in a really large pee-pee...BUT, primarily we used cloth diapers with my daughter. I am not recommending that, but what about a cloth diaper cover. We use the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap. I LOVE them. I buy them from a store called The Baby Lane http://thebabylane.com/cart/results.cfm?Search_brand=Bummis
They always held in everything from our cloth diaper. My daughter, age 2 is in the middle of her toilet training. She just can't hold it sometimes while she sleeps, so in the daytime, I just put the cover over her panties, and if she does have an accident, the cover holds it in. You can use them right over your diapers..and they could go in with his regular laundry. They could really help eliminate all those bedding changes!!

L.,

I have three boys. I have used nothing but pampers, they are / have been heavy wetters through out the night. My oldest would pee so much at night when I changed him in the morning I thought the diaper was going to bust, but it held very well. The same with my next 2 boys, my youngest son is 3 1/2 and wakes up really wet some nights and I have never had a wet bed yet. The pampers that I buy are not in the green package, they are the pampers cruisers in the purple package. Like I said, I have used these with all 3 of my boys and never had a problem yet.

Good luck.

Huggies overnights are good if you want a diaper. If you want a pull up, go to Goodnights if he is at least 35 lbs. My son is three. His diaper weighs 20 lbs when he wakes up and it never leaks.

i agree with the bigger diaper. my son is the same age as yours and when his diaper leaks it usually means a bigger diaper, not the type. however, if that's not the issue. you might want to check and make sure that his private area is "tucked" down and not up because that could be another issue, especially if it doesn't happen every night.

I have always sworn by Luvs for my boys!! Of all the diapers available, there is something about Luvs that is just the right fit for boys. My 2 1/2 year old is potty trained now but still wears the Nightime Pullups with the Toy Story characters (I think Huggies). FYI, I have bought him both the 2T-3T size and the 3T-4T size and the larger size leaked so I went back to the smaller size and haven't had any leaks! Good luck to you!

Hi L.,
I was in the same boat. My daughter is 2.3 old and she was leaking. I tried the Huggies nighttime diapers. They are not the pull-ups. They work fantastic. My daughter drinks 3 sippy cups throughout the night and I have to change her by 6:30-7:00, but they never leak. Everything else we have tried leaks. The pull-ups never work when sleeping, even for naptime those leak. I have a hard time finding them at times. The best place to find them is Winn-Dixie. Hope they help. I know how frustrated it gets.

Hello,
My son had the same problem, naps and overnight always lead to big leak problems. In the past, I had to use the plastic training pants (purchased at walmart) over diapers & pull-ups to try and control the problem. Now the only diaper & pull-ups we are able to use is Huggies Overnight diapers & Huggies Night time extra absorbency. And as long as I check him regularly he does not have any problems. Good luck with your little explorer!

If you don't have any luck with any of the suggestions, then I would try the "Good Nights" size small (35lbs to 65 lbs). They really are the best, I used them for our son who will be 5 next week and still has night time issues. I don't think I've ever had a leak. Oh, and I don't like the boxer/short style, I've had leaks with those. The regular pull up is what we use. Good luck!
