Looking for a Carseat or Pieces to an Old One

My husband and I just bought a second car. I went garage sale-ing to find a car seat and bought an evenflo universal base... then at another one I bought a full carseat set, Peg-Perego, Primo Viaggo LATCH system. The Peg-Perego was missing the two clips that hold the seatbelt on one side of the base. I thought bingo... now I know why I bought that evenflo base.... WRONG... the peg perego seat doesn't fit in the evenflo base. So now I have nothing that works. I'm going garage sale-ing again next weekend, but I thought in the mean-time I'd see if anyone on here is getting rid of a car seat or knows where I can get the missing pieces for the Peg-Perego. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Never heard about the whole accident thing... but as far as the age part, the car seat is only about 2 years old and its in perfect condition... if you don't count the missing pieces. Thanks to those that didn't try to make me feel like a bad mother for not being able to afford a brand new car seat. I wouldn't put my son in anything that would hurt him... if I was careless I wouldn't have noticed the missing pieces since they are at the bottom of the base.

I know that it is tempting to find low cost used car seats. They grow out of them so fast and I have twins! HOWEVER I need to caution you that when you buy a used car seat you don't know if that carseat has been in an accident. Once a car seat has been in an accident you are supposed to destroy the car seat (I work for a police department so I am up on these thing.) If you are going to go forward and use this seat just contact Peg and they will sell you the missing pieces.

I agree with other posters that recommend you just buy yourself a new carseat. Do you know if the carseat has been in an accident? How old is the carseat? Are there other things wrong with it that you can't see? If this were my child, I wouldn't want to take the risk. Besides, by the time you have bought the Evenflo base, the Peg Perego seat, the missing accessories for the Peg, AND go get another one this weekend, won't you be getting close to the amount of money you would have spent on a brand new, intact, carseat that you know is safe?

Try peg-perego's web site. I know you can order replacement stuff from there.

Personally, a carseat for my child is the one item I would not buy from a garage sale but new. Unless you know the person selling it, there is no way of being certain that the carseat was not involved in a minor or major accident. I have heard that even a slight impact can degrade the quality of the carseats. I know there are several police stations involved in carseat safety, maybe you want to see if they can check your carseat somehow to see if it's safe before you spend even more time and/or money to make it work. Good luck!

R. - your child is too important to go garage sale shopping for a car seat. Car seat materials have a life -- 7 years usually. You don't know how old the car seat is you are buying and if it has been in an accident -- which makes it automatically unsafe for re-use. Unless you get a hand me down from someone you know and trust -- I would suggest buying a new one and maybe looking online for a bargain.
Good luck.

Hi there-

Not sure if you would be interested but I have 2 car seat bases and an infant car carrier, by Graco, that I am looking to get rid of. They are navy with a sage and tan plaid. Let me know if you are interested.

Good luck.

I'de be pretty upset if I were you. To think, some jerk would sell something that would endanger an infant makes my blood boil. I'de take it back and give them a piece of my mind. Good luck mommy.

try calling the 800 number of each manufacturer to see if either was recalled, to order free instruction booklet, & to order parts, the phone number & model number is usually on the back or side

I have a brand new Eddie Bauer 22 car seat with base that has never been used. It is out of the box.

Please let me know if you're interested. I purchased as an extra car seat back in January, but I never had a need to use it.

Please contact me if interested.
