Longing to Be at Home with My Son

I am a full time working mother of a wonderful 4 year old son. Since the day he was born I have wanted to be at home with him, however financially I am unable to do so. I have struggled with this to the point that my doctor has put me on an antidepressant. I was going to work everday crying uncontrollably. I am a little better now because of the medicine, but I still constantly think about it.

What can I do next?

Hi C.,

I understand exactly how you feel. I used to quit work when ever I had my children. I do have an option for you. I've been working at home for over 3 years. I do Sales/ Cst Service. There are other positions also. Log on too: www.arise.com and enter The ACP# 39296 (it will bring up my name as the person who referred you) You will need a computer and headset to take calls. One of my clients is Walgreens. You can email me also. ____@____.com

You will make it. I just want you to know that you will make it. I had to get creative and pursue a home based business to fulfill my desire to stay home. To my surprise, I love what I do and get to have the flexibility for my family. Also, I tapped into my family gift for cooking and perfected a delicious pound cake. I now make special order pound cakes.

I say all that to say that getting creative is the key. All the women I know that are SAHMs, fulfilled their desire to stay at home by coming up with something creative to make it happen. Here is a list of some things that may work for you
1. Job sharing. A typical job share involves working two to two and half days a week. If your company does not have this option, you can create it. Go online and there is a lot of information on this topic
2. Telecommute. You did not mention your profession, but maybe this is an option for you. A friend, who fill shipping orders, suggested working from home to her company. Guess what? They said yes. So, now she completes all of the company shipping orders from home. She loves it. There was a learning curve on how to get organized to complete everything. Well, like you her two kids are at school part of the day, so she crunches her work into that time frame. She does not clean the house, schedule outside appointments or anything else during the time the kids are away so she can stay on top of her job.
3. www.simplyhomemagazine.com is a great resource for a list of home based companies. I used to frawn upon home based companies, not anymore. I found something I am excited about (Home Based Travel)so what I am doing is a joy. Once you find something you are passionate about you will find the rest to be easy.
4. www.workathomeagent.com or www.liveops.com are legitimate home based companies. There are others, do your homework and make sure you feel great about the product.

Hang in there...set a goal to make a change and work toward that goal.

Hi there!
I am a mom to a 2.5 yr old little boy and a 2 month old baby girl!
If you are looking for a work at home business, I would love to talk to you about mine. I never really thought about starting a home business. I just did not think it was for me. I have worked for someone else my whole life. It makes me sad to think about all the firsts I missed with my son. He is growing up too fast! .So now with the one on the way - I have been blessed to be able to stay home and work. It is so worth every minute I put into this business. I am able to work when and where I choose. I have the freedom to see my son grow up , and I'm not a stranger. I can work anywhere and everywhere without losing time with my family. If you have children and family, and wish you could be with them instead of your 9 to 5 job, please contact me. I can help.

I feel your pain. Just wanted you to know that you are not alone. I suggest that you find something that you like about your job or that is important and tell your son. If you truly have no option but to work, let him know that and that what you do is important. He will take your cue from you, I feel. I also had to go back to work and felt that my heart was literally ripped out. But on those hard mornings, I tell my daughter that Mommy has to go help boys and girls learn how to read. It helps me feel better, whether she understands now or not. One other thing is that I also call my sitter on those hard days and just check in. It helps to hear that sweet little voice in the background playing. I hope that you find a solution that works for you, so that you can have peace. Hang in there!

I am a mom of 3 kids under the age of 7 and came home to be with my very first newborn in 2002.

This process of being a homemaker and working from home is not an easy one, but it is much easier on my conscience to know that my kids are definitely getting what they really need every day.

I spent a lot of time searching for work from home, and still do look for other streams of income from home.

It is great that you are looking for ways to be home with your child. That is so important, and it is possible, if you start planning now.

Also, if you'd like information on what I am doing that is working, contact me through the MamaSource email system.

Also, I have knowledge of and access to many other helpful resources, groups, people, etc., that could be useful for you I am always looking for moms to develop friendships with, online and in my neighborhood. We really do need each other, and I am grateful for Mamasource and other online sites for moms.
