Long Term Nursers - Boppy Question

Silly question, but my 17 month old DS is still nursing while laying on the boppy. He seems to be getting big and awkward on it but doesn't really complain about it. Going without seems like it would be uncomfortable. When did you give up the boppy with your long term nursers? We use it at nap time and bedtime and when he wakes up. Of course, those are the only times we nurse, too...

What can I do next?

do whatever works for you. when my kids were that age, we didnt use anything, it was more comfortable for me to sit cross legged, they fit right in there. but i would think it depends on you and your body and where you are sitting. whatever works :)

Well when he outgrows it, then just don't use it.
He will be able to be on your lap.
Reaching up himself without Boppy's help.
Or just a regular pillow.

I nursed my daughter until she self-weaned at about 2.5 years old.
My son self-weaned at about 1 year old.
Well, my kids are TALL kids and by then, Boppy was on the sidelines.

As a sidenote: I used my Boppy afterward, in my lap, to read magazines etc.
It is GREAT for that.

Oh we gave it up before a year old, just got too awkward. I use it sometimes to lean on though. My son is 27 months, still nurses, but now just lays next to me or cuddled on top of my lap.

Do what works for you - as long as it is comfy for you both, keep it up! I still nurse my almost 2 year old, but he just lays in my lap. when I nurse him on the couch, I put a throw pillow next to me to rest under my arm (and rest my feet on the coffee table so my knees are elevated). At night, in the rocker I cross one leg over the other to help support him and he rests there - a cozy little nest! Sometimes he snuggles a teddy bear almost as big as he is - then it feels a little crowded...he is almost 25 lbs! Also, I use a nursing stool to elevate my feet - that feels important for nursing in the chair - couldn't manage without it!

Try a few different things and see what feels best for you both...
Good LUck!

Not silly! I gave the Boppy up when I got tired of bringing it with me everywhere to nurse my son and decided it was easier to just hold him. He nursed looooong after I stopped using it! When he was only nursing upon waking, naptime, and bedtime, we started using side-lying position (both of us laying down).

That is what worked for me, but do what works for you. :)

We aren't as long term as you (yet) since my daughter is only 11 months, but I gave up on the boppy several months ago because I felt she was too big for it...(31 inches, 24 pounds.) Instead, I bought a nice comfy pillow and a nice quilted sham that I enjoy looking at, and I LOVE nursing with it! I just always sit next to an armrest, lay the pillow across my lap with part of it up on the armrest, and lay her across it. I think this will work for the duration of our nursing, and it is SO much more comfortable than the boppy. I really started to hate that thing, and my back hurt so bad using it!

I really did not use the boppy for long. I found it awkward- of course I had twins so a lot of the time I would end up nursing both. Have you tried just propping him up on a pillow? That's how I did it most of the time. I would just grap a throw pillow or ball up a baby blanket.

I started using a regular pillow around 12 months, a nice fluffy one. We are still nursing just before bed, my DD is 3.
ps. Not a silly question!! :)
