Hey Ladies,
I am in the process of growing out my hair for locks of love . My issue is that I normally keep my hair REALLY short and its been a year and I have only grown my hair out to the top of my shoulders. AHHHH I am about to go nuts BUT I am determined to grow it out to the 10 inch minimum required to donate. Does any one have any tips to grow hair faster?

So far I havent chemically treated my hair , kept up with the trims , wash only every other day and try to stay away from heat (as much as one can without looking like a wookie) . Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

Ah, yes. I am a 'Locks of Love' donor, and know many people that are. Don't have a lot of time to write right now, but you may e-mail me and we can talk more at another time.

I love that you are an aspring millionare - ME TOO! For hair growth, maybe try folic acid which is in prental vitamins or you can take it alone. There are also supplements that contain it, and other hair and nail growth/strenth formulations. You can find them at any drug strore or Walmart.

My 8 yo daughter is growing out her hair for Lock of Love too - great cauase :)

Good luck on the hair and the million $$

Yeah, like the other moms said, prenatal vitamins and vitamin E worked for me. My hair grew from the top of my shoulders (where you said yours is) to the middle of my back (almost to the waistband of my shorts) in a little over 6 months. So you should be ready to donate by the middle to the end of the summer. However, it will suck to have long hair during the summer, but as long as you keep it up and off your neck, it shouldn't be too bad. Good luck on your hair, and your million dollars. I auditioned for Deal or No Deal two days ago, so I hope to be a millionaire soon as well!!

You might want to try prenatal vitamins. I just donated over Christmas, but my hair grows really fast so it was really easy for me. I plan to do it again sometime. Good luck! -A.

I am a hair stylist and I always suggest optimum for hair and nails at high health. I've always heard of the prenatal vitamin thing and I think in general if you take vitamins it's good for your hair. You might want to compare labels but personally I would take the stuff formulated for your hair. I definitely noticed a difference from taking them religiously after a few weeks. I'm pregnant and on prenatals now and haven't noticed my hair growing faster, I think it depends on the person.

Someone suggested gelatin, that's probably a good idea. Also any stimulation to the scalp, it gets the blood flowing and your hair growing, so scalp massages!

FYI, I'm pretty sure Locks for Love requires 12 inches, and when you cut it off it's in a pony tail and you still need room for the haircut you want (unless you plan on buzzing it).

It's a very noble cause but make sure it’s what you really want to do. I would call Locks for Love and get more specific details, the owner of my shop is under the impression that they get so many donations they're not really in need (I'm not sure if that's true or not), and I've heard of people selling their hair for like $3,000 (again I don't know for sure, but it’s something to think about). You might want to investigate your options, but by no means am I trying to talk you out of it, like I said it's a noble cause, more power to you if you can do it!

Good luck!

Try taking prenatal vitamins and folic acid. I've also heard that taking flax seed will help.

A combo of Prenatal vitamins and a simple Vitamin E capsule a day should do wonders. I recommend right before you go to bed.
