Local Gym with Trustworhy Childcare.

I am in desperate need of losing post baby weight. I danced for 20+ years to stay in shape but now with a 1 year old and waiting tables at night I don't have the time or energy to take any dance classes. Not to mention trying to figure out babysitting. I would really rather do something during the day where my daughter can come along. So, does anyone know of a gym that has a child care center so my daughter and I could both benefit. Or any other ideas are welcome.

What can I do next?

Getting exercise DVD's worked great for me when I wanted to do prenatal yoga with my 4-year-old son around. It seemed like I could never make it to a class at the right time, but with the DVDs I could exercise when a moment came up, for as long or short a time as I wanted. It's been great. I don't know which ones to recommend for postpartum, but you can get lots of info by searching on Amazon. Good luck!

Hi A.,

I'm not sure where you live, but I go to the Hilltop YMCA and it's wonderful! My kids really enjoy the childcare facility and I really like the people who work there. They even have Totercise for the kids while the parents work out. Nice! I've heard that the Berkeley YMCA is also good, however I think that they charge $5 per hour for childcare. Mine is included in the $60 membership fee. :)

There is Elan in Petaluma and San Anselmo, a women only gym that has childcare available.

I have heard that the JCC in San Rafael has a really wonderful childcare program and they have a great gym. I just signed my mom up for a membership there because they are suppose to have the best Swimming pools in Marin.
Good luck,

Try your local YMCA. There's one in Novato. We've belonged to the Berkeley YMCA for over 12 yrs now. I started taking my sons to their Childwatch when they were babies. I've only seen the outside of that Y but I hear it's great! I'm biased....my husband works for the Y in SF & that Y in Novato is part of his association & he says it really nice. They also have baby classes that as a member are either free or pretty cheap. At our Y, I pay about $5/hr for Childwatch & I'm not sure what the dues is per month but they do offer scholarships/financial aid if you need it. I always tell people that the 2 best things I've done w/our 2 boys is take them to Childwatch & Gymboree. Both of our boys take swim lessons there & we also spend a lot of time there as a family, swimming, working out & taking classes. I spend a lot of my time at the Y & as a result, am now on the board. so, go in for a tour & see what you think.

YMCA! Seriously. I don't know what I would do without them. there is one in Novato (I think at Hamilton, not sure) and also one in San Rafael off of Smith Ranch/Lucas Valley. Both facilities are fairly new and have good equipment and the childcare is very good. The only thing is no pbj.

Try Eslan. I believe it's a women's only gym. I know the one in Petaluma has child care, and I believe there's one near Novato. Good luck, don't worry the weight will come off but it does take time.
