I have for the past 4 years fed my family about 50% organic "live" foods. I am now starting to move toward 100% and I need some ideas and recipes! My family and I are getting so bored with wild caught salmon and organic chicken! I need some great recipes for grass fed meat, as it has a sort of "wild/game" taste to it. I will take any recipes for organic meals you can provide - just make sure they are yummy enough for my 5 year old to eat them!

So What Happened?

What I mean by "non dead" foods are foods that come from live sources = ie animals, trees, plants, etc. Nothing that is made in a laboratory in New York City. Hope this makes sense!

HI S.,
I am a bit confused with your post because generally "live, non dead" foods are raw foods (vegan) that are not altered by heat cooking methods.
However, since your family seems to be eating meats, I recommend that you look at texasgrassfedbeef.com for great nutritional info and cooking info. Cooking beef that is completely grass fed is different than with corn finished. Mostly the idea is "low and slow" heat.
Also, any recipe you want to make can be organic. You just choose to use organic rather than conventionally grown products.

Congrats with one on the way. I also have one on the way. I have also never tried Organic "live" foods. Is this suppose to help out with the pregnancy? I am trying to do everything healthy to give my baby the best start possible. Any information you could provide to me on this would be awesome.

How far along are you? I am right at 11 weeks. Hope everything goes well and thank you in advance.

well as for the meat try marinating it over night. It helps get rid of any game taste. also not all beef will taste gamey for being grass fed. It also depends on the breed. We had bottle fed calves that only got oats once a day and ate grass the whole day and once we butchered them they tasted just like any other beef only fresher.

with recipes that use hamburger to add a fresh touch I chop up onion and peppers to add in while cooking the meat. it adds flavor and if you boil the meat a lot of fat gets drained off with the water.

My husband is a big deer hunter, and we always "bleed out" the meat before we use it. Basically, soak the meat in icy water for 8-10 hours before you freeze it or cook with it. The blood will drain out of the meat and into the water. We add ice every 3-4 hours to prevent it from spoiling. This really decreases the game taste. One of our favorite recipes is chopping the meat up into bite size pieces, adding tomatoes, carrots, peas, potatoes, and any other veggies (corn, beans, etc.), and then let it simmer for hours. It makes a great stew, and most people that don't know think it's beef.

We've also decided this year to buy a side of beef directly from a cattle farmer. It's pricey up front ($750) but it ends up being about $1.50/pound for all the meat (steaks, hamburger, etc). This way we know the meat has not been injected with dyes or the cattle with hormones, and the farmer has only grass-fed them. We had to buy a deep-freeze to keep it all, though!
