Hello Ladies!
We are thinking to buy this bed http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2308700 to our son, he will be 3 years old on May. Does somebody have any experience with such kind of children's furniture? How long can a child to sleep in such bed?
Also, maybe somebody can advise some reasonable furniture stores in Dallas metroplex area.

What can I do next?

I'd say get a twin bed and Thomas sheets. It will be far easier to just get new sheets when he decides he is into something else.

The manufacturer's recommended age is 2 - 4 years. I always stayed away from beds like this because they seemed hard to make/change the sheets.

What about getting a regular toddler bed or twin bed and just getting Thomas the Tank sheet set?

If you can afford it and he likes Thomas, I dont see why not. A friend of mine's daughter has a castle bed that I'm really jealous of, but it wasnt in our budget to do that, we got a crib that converted into a toddler bed, which she likes.

I had the opposite situation as many of the moms! We transitioned our son from a crib a full size bed. We got all the transportation themed decor to make his room cool. It was a nightmare... he went from being a wonderful sleeper to never sleeping and I ended up putting him in our oversized pack n play till I found a new solution. Once he was back into the confined space he went back to sleeping well. I had really wanted to get him the fire truck bed, much like Thomas, but didn't want to spend the money on something that would only be used for such a short period of time, fuss with trying to make it, or have to store it later. I knew though that he still needed the feeling of cozy confinment to feel safe and fall asleep, so I bit the bullet and decided we would try the fire truck bed. I gave craigslist a try and found one in my town for $60. Its worth every penny, he loves to sleep in it and ocationally will play in it during the day. Our son is almost 4 and plan to keep him in it for a bit longer still. I would definetly give craigslist a try or a local second hand childrens store. That way if he doesn't like it you can sell it again for what you paid for it. Also my nephew had the Thomas bed he slept in it just fine, he used it till shortly after his 4th birthday , but he is really tall for a 4 year old. You will probably only get 2 year max if that out of a toddler bed. Hope the info helped. Good luck!

Hi, I.! I am a mother of eight and my husband and I go by the saying, "Every day you are making memories for your children. What kind of memories do YOU want to make?" I say go for it and get him the bed. Can you imagine being three and sleeping in such a great bed? Our littlest is seven and he said it's cool and he would sleep in it if it was his! Hope this helps! Good luck and enjoy him while he's little....it goes by WAY TOO FAST!

My son had this bed. It's so fun. There is a groove along the side to run trains or cars on and the shelf and storage bin are cute. My son kept his pjs in the bin. Now that said, I have to admit he never slept in the bed much. He was one of those that wouldn't sleep alone. He loved the bed but just wouldn't have slept in any bed. I don't know wherenthey sell them. I got ours at a resale shop and sold it at a garage sale. If he had bothered to use it he probably would have been good until at least five maybe six yo. He's average in height and weight.

When my son climbed out of his crib and we switched him to the toddler bed we went through 2 months of hell trying to transition him - fighting bed and nap time, not sleeping through the night, only napping for 30 mins. The night we switched him to a twin bed, the hell was over!

I strongly suggest going straight to a twin bed, that he will be able to use for years, rather than a toddler bed that he will only get a year or two out of. Let him pick out sheets - there are tons of fun ones to choose from!

We had this bed for my son when he was 2-4 or 41/2. He LOVED it and slept GREAT in it! It was great tool for getting him to learn to sleep on his own in his own bed. Whenever you transition out of the crib to any kind of regular/toddler bed - there's going to be issues/fighting... b/c now they can get up and walk out of their bed. We set guidelines/boundaries and firmly told him to get back in his bed that first week. His personality has always been one that wants to please us/not disappoint us so the transition only took like 3 days max.
You have to be firm in your parenting and not budge an inch when it comes to letting them sleep elsewhere other than their own bed. I'd always say that first week "Mommy has her own bed. You have your own bed."
That said.... we have fond memories of this bed. Have lots of cute pictures of him sitting in it/playing in it for the baby scrapbook/memory book. He was a HUGE Thomas train fan!! So the bed was the centerpiece of the room.
If your son is a big Thomas fan, and you can afford it, I'd say go for it!
My husband told me when we bought the bed, "when i was little, my mother NEVER bought things like this for me b/c she thought it wasn't practical. And didn't see the point... thought I'd outgrow it too fast. I don't want to raise our kids like that. Life is too short. If we have the means, let's do it! I always envied other kids that had fun cool things like that."

They sometimes sell these used on Craigslist.com. Do a search for one and you might find a good deal. We sold ours a few months ago on Craigslist.

We have this bed, our son never slept in it, but he loved jumping in it and pretending he was an engineer. It is really cute, but I wouldn't get it. Get a real bed. I'm not sure this plastic stuff is good for kids.
