Little One Has a Burn on the Palm of His Hand and Cannot Get Around as Usual

I'm thinking it's naturally going to slow him up until it gets better, but in a week or so, it should be healed enough for him to get back to normal exploring. It's a little set-back, but not something to be too concerned over as he'll get back on track and still learn to walk and all the other things to do with growing up.
I can remember having a bad foot injury just before my sixth birthday. I was off of my feet for 12 weeks and had to re-learn to walk after being able to get up again. It was a frightening experience for me, and I didn't think I'd ever walk again for the first day or so, but once I got over being afraid, I was back to my normal running all over the place. He'll do the same thing before you know it with his hand.

BTW, not sure if you aware of this or not, but PURE aloe vera gel is a remarkable healing agent for burns. If you don't have a plant, then the bottled PURE gel will do.. works wonders, I have used it for years for burns and scrapes.

When my daughter was 3 she got a severe burn on her shoulder. I was at work and my oldest son quickly got her under cool water to stop the burn from going deeper. We gobbed aloe vera gel on the burn and wrapped it in plastic wrap(praying for her as we went). In the morning the burn had healed so dramatically that you could touch it, and she had NO pain! The skin on her shoulder had actually rolled up... now at 23 years old she has a dot on her arm where the burn happened, but it looks like when we got vaccinations back in the fifties, and is miniscule in comparison with the actual burn.

Aloe Vera gel works wonders for healing burns. I got a very painful steam burn on my fingers, the pain wouldn't stop, I filled a ziplock bag with aloe vera gel and ice cubes and slept with it, the pain was totally gone and the fingers were like new the next morning.

Burns hurt like heck, because the nerves are exposed due to the protective skin layer being damaged. When you put the aloe vera gel on, it immediately soothes, but then it soaks in and the pain is back. That's why I used the plastic wrap, it keeps the area moist. In my experience the burns are totally healed by the next day. Blessings on your little one.

How bad is the burn? I'm assuming that it is not blistered. My son burned his hand when he was young and it blistered, so we ended up having to go to Shriners a few times. They like the burns to get as much air as possible, unless it is going to break and open up. When we covered it, they had us use aquaphor and gauze/cotton and wrap it in that white medical tape. That is what I would do during the day and then I would let it air out at night. Hopefully, that will help him crawl a bit more easily.

My son burned his hand but was a little older and walking. Very painful! Try getting some aloe vera juice from the organic or natural section of the grocery store and pore it on the wound. It will help promote healing, reduce inflammation and sanitize. Don't go cheap because cheap aloe vera juice won't work as well. Other than that, you'll probably have to wait it out as he adapts.

My son burned his hand last summer. Unfortunately, you will just have to wait it out for a couple weeks but on the plus side, I'll bet he no longer questions you when you tell him something is hot and to leave it alone! For treatment, I found that applying the gauze and whatever you use to treat it at bedtime is the way to go - they are not using the hands as much and are less likely to take the gauze off. During the day let it air out. Good luck, this too shall pass...

This happened to my son when he was a crawler. He had a 2nd degree "waffle" burn on his hand from the floor furnace. He nursed it, but still managed to get around. Also, kids are super resilient. My son's nasty burn was almost completely healed in 7 days. Your little one will adapt and soon enough it will be in the past.

Most importantly, try to let the burn get air. It will help heal it quickly.

Great healer...ALBA's NON-Petroleum Jelly...in a yellow squeezy tube, available at Raley's (has Castor oil, Soybean Oil, Vitamen E-GREAT for burns & dry, rough skin, diaper rash...even sunburn!) Apply to spot & wrap hand with gauze, a couple of layers, like you would a sprain-with an Ace bandage. Won't get in his way, Won't feel heavy, Will keep ointment On & hand Clean and... OFF! Both of my cildren hadburns but not on the hand. On burned his foot bady just after he began to walk and was supposed to stayoff it which he s impossible but it slowed him down then he was fine and the other at 5 leaned her butt against the fireplace glass wich also healed well but was painful.

My daughter burned her hand on the vaporizer at 8 months. We applied silvadene(prescription) and wrapped in gauze. Then we put one of her socks over her hand (cut hole for thumb). I had to tape it around her wrist so she would pull the sock off. We did that for a full month before she was able to go with just a sock. A month of sock only and then she was good to go.

She's fine today.
