Lines on Her Breasts
My 12 year old has pretty significant breasts...the other day I was talking with her while she was changing clothes and made her stop so I could look at her breasts...they looked strange from a distance. Well she has some significant lines on them that look very similar to stretch marks. I didn't have stretch marks until I was pregnant, but she seems to have them at 12. Is this normal? Should we see a doctor? She hasn't started her period yet, thank God, but should we go so an OB/GYN to have them checked out? Or could this be b/c her breasts just grew fast over the summer...she does seem to be bigger than she was early in the summer. Any advice would be geat...Thanks.
So What Happened?™
Thank you so much...that really calms my nerves. I developed early too, but don't remember having stretch marks except during pregnancy (and now of course). I haven't mentioned anything to her other than wanting to look, but if she gets concerned I will help her resolve it. Considering she is taller than me now I'm surprised she doesn't have anywhere else. Again thank you so much for your advice and comments, it really helped.

Sounds to me like stretch marks because her body grew so fast. I wouldn't make a big deal about them unless she's concerned about them because you'll only make her self-conscieous (like why she's so different from everyone else). If they bother her get some strech mark cream like Palmer's and have her apply it everyday to see if you can get it to diminish.

Stretch marks it is. I also had them at a young age. I got them on the insides of my upper arms and knees. My little bro has them across his lower back. It is totally normal at that age when the skin can't keep up with the rate of growth.

I am with the other moms on its just stretch marks. I got them while growing up on my legs and breasts, because I grew something like 6 inches in one summer and developed. Rest easy.

You may want to mention it her doctor, if it will ease your mind. But, I think my daughter had the same thing. It's hard to remember now. She's almost 16 and developed very young.

I developed early too (C at 12 years old!). They are stretch marks. Many say coco butter or avocado rubbed on them will stop the process/heal them.... The ADA (American Dermotologic Association) has debunked these remedies. Basically, they are genetic...you may not have had them but great grandma or paternal grandma, etc. could have. They do fade (can't seem them now at all, 20 years later), but if she is concerned, take her into the doctor...there is a prescription cream that is specifically designed to clear up the pigmentation and blend them with the rest of the skin. Nothing to be worried about...very normal!

D.,
This is very normal, especially if she grew very fast. The same thing happened to me about the same age. I grew to 36C in the length of one summer. I got stretch marks, actually quite a few. The good thing is, when I had my children I didn't get additional ones and by the time I was an adult they were all normal skin tone and are not really noticeable.
My advice to you is to not make a big deal about it as she is having to deal with enough changes as it is! If she has changed significantly over the summer, she may get teased at school, I did. But, hopefully, she has a good core group of friends and that won't be an issue. I'm just saying that with all the changes going on with her, she has a lot to deal with. Just be willing to talk if she needs to and don't get too excited about anything...at least outwardly. :)
I hope this helps. God Bless, ~J.

I remember when I was 11 or 12 years old, I had stretch marks on my legs. My mom was told it was cause I had a growth spurt. I was tall for my age at that point. So it's nothing to worry about and the only stretch marks I have now are from when I was pregnant.
