Lightweight Double Stroller

I am in need of a lightweight double stroller for my 11 month old and 3 year old. I drive a Mercedes SUV with a third row seat so my storage space in the back is pretty small. I was looking at the Maclaren or Chicco double umbrella stroller but I have never used either brand. We had a Peg Perego and a Baby Trend sit and stand but those were to big and bulky. Any feedback is appreciated!

I would go with the Maclaren. We have one and love it. It's lightweight and easy to use. And if you are a little taller than average, you don't have to bend over to push it like you do with the inexpensive umbrella strollers.

We have a brown Maclaren double for our twin boys, now six months old. They do fine in it and it's easy to compact and expand. Fits in my trunk and I can usually do it with one arm/hand. Greatlooking, kind of pricy but I really wanted a side-by-side rather than a front-to-back.

I just got the combi twin savvy and LOVE IT!!! It folds twice- very compact. I am having my 5th baby anyday and needed something lightweight as well. I think it weighs like 20 pounds. It's great. Check it out at www.combi-intl.com Best of luck! J.

Hi R.,
I've owned both at one time and recommend the Maclaren for durability and cleanability. I had the Chicco, but the the way it folded, the wheels stained the hood and wouldn't wash out. Also, unless they've changed the design from 2005, the seats were not removable for cleaning. Soooo important with a 3yr old. The Maclaren is fully washable.

BTW, where in CA are you from? I moved hear almost 3 yrs ago from Brentwood, CA (Northern- not LA) but am originally from Southern CA.

We use a side by side double stroller for our kids. It is Jeep brand and it folds up like an umbrella stroller. The only problem is that you have to be accurate in your steering when you go through doors. but otherwise, it is great and it fit in the trunk of my Honda Civic.

I also have the Peg Perego - plus a Bob's jogger and a Maclaren umbrella. I love the Maclaren - I just have the single - but it's the best lightweight umbrella to keep in your car all the time. I don't like the chicco because of their handles...

Hi R.,

I have 5 kids and for the first four have a used an umbrella double stroller from Kolcraft. They also make the single umbrellas that sell for around $20. I found it at Babies R us. It has held up well and is much less expensive than the other brands. It doesn't have a basket, but it does have canopies for each seat. My kids range from 7 years to 4 months. As the four month old gets bigger, I'll use it for her and my two and a half year old. I drive an Expedition w/ limited cargo space and this works well. Good luck. E.

I have a 4 yr old and a 3 month old. I use the sit n stand version of stroller. The brand is Joovy Caboose. I bought it at Babies R' Us. Its light weight but long. I works well in the malls while trying to maneuver around the racks. Not bulky. So glad I got this and not a double stroller.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Maclaren. They are fantastic strollers! I can't speak specifically for the double but we have a single and I love it! We're due with #2 this summer and I'm pretty sure that we'll buy a Maclaren double at some point. Everyone I know that has a Maclaren, loves it. I've never heard a single complaint...
