Has anyone taken Lexapro during pregnancy? I have tried many different antidepressants and Lexapro is the only one that works for me. I am considering trying to get pregnant but not sure if you can take Lexapro during pregnancy. I have an appt with my OB/GYN later this month but would appreciate any advice from you all. Also, I had surgery for endometriosis last summer and not sure if I can get pregnant. My doctor says that I should be able to. Anyone else go through this? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I went to my doctor today and he gave me the o.k. to start trying to get pregnant. He said the Lexapro is not a problem. Wish us luck.

I was put on prozac to help cope with infertility. My doctor chose that one because it is one of the safest if you get pregnant. I too had endometriosis but my husband was also "broken" so the endo was not the reason we never got pregnant. I know others who have successfully achieved pregnancy after endometriosis so I hope that gives you some hope! I am an adoptive mom, too!

I'm not sure about the Lexapro since I've never been on it. I do know about the endometriosis. I had that surgery in June 2008. I'm now 12 weeks pregnant. It didn't take any longer this time to get pregnant than last time, but the DR warned us it could. We just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. Good Luck!!

call the Dr. that prescriped your Lexapro, he/she should be able to tell you if you are able to take while pregnant. I also see no reason why you should not be able to have a baby due to the endomitriosis, I have two beautiful babies and I have had zero problems since having them.
Good luck, do not stop your antidepressants cold turkey, call your Dr. ASAP!!

I would NOT take an anti depressent while pregnant. for me I was in the best mood ever during all my pregnancies as if I had been on one.

talk with a perinatologist about this not just an OB because they know more about what causes birth defects so you can be sure that medicine is ok or not.

good luck

I took lexapro durring both my pregnancies and so far my children are both fine. i ahve a 4 year old son and a 2 year old daughter. My Ob told me there is some minute risk but the risk FAR outweighed the cons of me not taking my meds for 9 months. With my first I tried to get off of it and I was a basket case so he put me back on them. Obviously it is a personal choice but for me it was one that I needed to be on the meds or I was not going to make it through with my sanity in tact. Good luck with what ever you choose. Im sure there will be alot of people that will advise you not to take anything durring pregnancy, but you need to listen to your doctor and do what is right for you and your family.

Hi R.,

I had surgery for endometriosis when I was in high school. It came back but I did not have surgery again and I had no problem getting pregnant. In fact we got pregnant sooner than we had planned. However, our bodies might be different but maybe that will put your mind at ease!!! I didn't take lexapro during pregnancy (however I could have used it) but I am assuming that if your doc thinks its ok you should be fine! Good luck

I was taking 2 anti-depressants, well-butrin and Lexapro, when I found out I was pregnant and went off wllbutrin to be on Lexapro only (by my choice). I ended up choosing to go off Lexapro and stay on the Well-butrin instead but my Dr. approved of me being on Lexapro. Talk to your Doctor. He/She can talk to you about the risks versus the benefits of taking your medication.

Good Luck!

I had endometriosis and had surgery a couple of years ago. I gave birth to my baby boy in January, so yes it is possible!

I took Lexapro while I was pregnant and was fine and my son is just fine. He is 20 months old now. I am glad that I did b/c I did not suffer any postpartum depression and I had a wonderful pregnancy and delivery. Good Luck!

I take lexapro too but had to stop when I got pregnant. They advise you not to continue it but there are a couple that you can try while you are pregnant. I had to start taking Zoloft. I think the other one is called Wellbutrin. I don't know how you spell it but I'm pretty sure it's safe. Good Luck!

It is my understanding from recent research studies, that taking an anti-depressant while pregnant can lead to nursing problems (if you want to nurse) and other concerns
(since the baby has to break his addiction to the medicine as a new born). I would recommend the "talk therapy" (counseling) approach to your depression managment rather than the drug approach while pregnant. It may be okay . . . but why risk it?

I took Lexapro throughout my entire 3rd pregnancy and while nursing. For me, the benefits definately outweighed the risks. My child didn't suffer any ill effects from it.

I don't have any experience w/ the lexapro, but I do w/ the endometriosis. I also had the surgery and I'm happy to say I now have a wonderful 2 year old. And oddly enough had zero troubles getting pregnant. I'm sure you'll be just fine. Good luck!!!
