I would love some suggestions on this: I am looking for a family who is struggling financially and can't afford to have a Christmas. If anyone knows someone (you work with, or a friend, or maybe someone in your family knows someone) or somewhere I can go to find one, please let me know. I am also contacting churches, any input would be great. Thank you!!!

What can I do next?

Catholic Charities always has families. not sure how far out you need to contact them to still get one,, it has been a few years since i participated in this when i worked.
i would also, try the shelters, sienna/francis house, McAuley center, Open door mission, i know these take donations, not sure if they also have whole families you can sponsor

good luck:-)
it's very nice of you to think of others

I have some other agencies as well, if you'd like more.

You might want to try the Salvation Army because they have a program called Adopt a Family. Also try calling United Way I am sure they have a list of places that usually gives to families in need. But good luck and I admire your family looking out for other families in need. Thank you

I am a 56 year old mother of five. My husband had kidney failure in 1990, and in 1991 had a kidney transplant. At the time he was only 36 yo. This was the beginning of 20yrs. of illness. I had to drop out of college, as our children at the time were very young. For the next 18 yrs. there was always a battle with his illness. Since he could no longer work, our lives changes. During that time I became ill, suffering from two heart attacks. Since then I've continued to have battles with heart disease and diabetes. Unable to work also. We never were able to have a good christmas. Then the unthinkable happened, my husband was diagnosed with lung/liver cancer in 2008. He lived 12 weeks after being diagnosed. My life since then has been in shambles emotionally and financially. Nine months after my husband of 30 years passed away, we lost our home to fire. we lost everything we had. Most importantly our memories. I can describe or explain my feelings. I only know that I'm in financial ruins. I only wish I could catch up on my bills and have a good family x-mas. I've never had anyone to help me. To even share this is so hard. I know there are good, christian people in the world who understands me. I know my kids are almost grown, but I have two young ones that I would love to see smile once again on Christmas morning. Thank you and God Bless

I know churches can have really good ways of providing information for helping people in their church and community. Perhaps if you go to a local shelter they can provide a specific way of giving too. We have done that in the past. It was great. We could remain anonymous yet also address very specific needs.
