My son finally gave me an idea for Christmas - Lego Minecraft set. I have looked at our local Wal Mart, Target, Toys R Us, Khols, Legoland Discovery store, and Lego online. Also Ebay and Amazon. Ebay is already selling them for but they are going for $80-$100 or more per set. Regular price is $34.99. Unreal ! Apparently this is a hot toy this year ! Everyplace is sold out. Does anyone have any suggestions for other places to look ? Thanks for your help.

If this is for your 7 year old, steer him towards something else from Lego - if he "finally" gave you an idea, then it's not something he's been obsessing about and one cool Lego set will be as good as another. If he believes in Santa, tell him that Santa doesn't make these and that Lego is sold out. If he doesn't, just tell him that Lego is sold out. We had a similar issue at that age a few years ago with a Star Wars Lego set and because he believed in Santa, I told him that he'll get whatever Santa gives him and that if it's not the one he wanted, I'd buy it for his birthday in March. I subbed in another set and he was delighted with that. Don't go crazy for the *one* item on everyone's list. It's odd how there's no rhyme or reason to this...two years ago it was impossible to get an Imaginext Bat Cave before Christmas but there were plenty be had in mid-January...

Sit your son down and have him make a christmas list that has at least a dozen things on it. If he believes in Santa then anything on the list will be fine. If he doesn't believe in Santa and you have your heart set on geting him Lego Minecraft then give him another present and an IOU explaining that the set was sold out but as soon as if become available after the holidays the two of you can order it.

Paying over retail for a toy is just silly since you know that it'll be restocked by February.

Look also at the online versions of the stores you shop at. Sometimes you can order them online, or if sold out, they will email you when they get restocked.

Another suggestion is to add to the person that suggested an IOU-- Minecraft themes.
ThinkGeek.com carries wall decals of Minecraft, fridge magnets, and other geeky goods that are Minecraft themed. Decorate his room with Minecraft stuff while he is asleep, and give him a surprise(if he believes, from Santa), if not, from you.
You can make your very own creeper with crafting foam and printouts from here:
http://minecraftpapercraft.com/

They even have a cute pattern to make a Minecraft Chessboard. Print out the designs, glue them to foam, piece them together, and assemble with hot glue. You can even modge podge them when done to give them more durability.

I did something like this for my son for a Real GhostBusters Birthday Party one year complete with a ghost trap cake and a ghost being put into the trap.

Make him a Minecraft themed Christmas card, with the IOU in it, and attach it to your homemade gift. It will also mean more that you took the time to make him something that he likes for a gift, as well as the fact that you tried to find it, and will get it for him after Christmas due to it being popular and unavailable.

Hope this helps.

Check with Minifigs, Bricks and More in Denton. They are always getting new stuff in, and if they don't have it they may know of another dealer who does.
