Leggings or Tights?

My daughter aged 7 and I are going to a mother-daughter ____@____.com mother-in-law's church this Saturday. My daughter has her heart set on wearing a dress, we're even buying a new one for the occasion. In case the weather is cold, which it has been for the most part rainy and in the 40s lately with a rare day of sunshine here, should I have her wear tights or leggings underneath her dress? I'm not in the know with what is better being that I myself do not wear dresses nor does my daughter, typically. Thanks for the input :)

What can I do next?

Leggings... is the kind that just goes to the ankle. Not the whole foot.

To me, leggings and tights, are mostly the same.
Leggings, are not as sheer.

Tights, have feet on it. Like stockings.

Leggings or tights... will be either all solid in color, or have a pattern on it or multi-colored.

What will she wear?
Some kids won't wear the kind with the feet on it.

Old Navy or The Children's Place, are stores that have it.
That I know of.

I think it depends on the dress and the shoes...

depends on the shoes I would say. I think either will keep her the same warmth wise....
Make sure to take a sweater.
My daughter can totally go bare on the legs if she has a coat on.. LOL - that is what she says anyhow.

typically leggings are more casual than tights, since they have no feet. So, it would depend on the dress and shoes. If it's a little fancy, then go with tights, otherwise leggings are very cute under a casual dress. Have a great time! :)

I think tights tend to look dressier, but leggings are generally more comfortable. My daughter LOVES dresses, but hates tights. She pretty much wears leggings all fall/winter/spring and shorts under dresses in the summer.

Leggings. There's nothing worse than having to sit still in a cold church. I wear leggings with shoes or sandals. No one will bat an eye about it anyway. Seven is too young to be worried about what works for others. Let her be warm and comfortable. (I hated tights because my legs were always cold!)

It doesn't really matter, but tights are probably better. Leggings are better under dresses for playing in the park, but tights are better for a dress up occasion.

Really though, whatever she's most comfortable in and feels confident in is perfect!

We just went to a wedding Sat. and my DD (5) wore a Easter dress we bought at Target and black footless tights.
Let me see if I can get a pic...here it is: http://www.target.com/Girls-Cherokee-Black-White-Bubble/d...
It was shiny and had a poofy underlining. She wore little strapped ballet flats.

I hope that helps! Footless tights can look just as dressy! :)
Have fun!

depends on the shoes really. If she is wearing open toed sandles I would go with leggings, if she is wearing closed toed I would go with tights. Unless she is like my daughter who refuses to wear tights then its leggings either way. Have fun!!!

My son is 8. I see a lot of 7-8 year olds wearing both. Might depend on her shoes?
