Leaky Nighttime Diaper

My 18 month old sons diaper leaks every night. We use the Huggies overnight and I've tried both the size 4 and size 5. I've even tried those little rubber-ish pants over his diaper and his jammies are still wet in the morning. Yes he drinks 8 oz of milk before bed, but so do a lot of babies. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

My daughter will be 2 in october and she still has the leaky diaper syndrome. I have also tried many things and she also drinks right before bed. I have only been able to wake her up in the middle of the night and change her. SHe goes right back to sleep so for me it isn't that big of a deal and i also work second shift. That was the only thing that works for me.

The only diapers that I have found that work overnight is Pampers. Every stage was leak proof for my boys and they sleep a lot and pee a lot at night!! Luvs was probably the worst then huggies, but pampers i LOVE LOVE LOVE and if you regularly buy pampers they have a program where you can enter the codes when you buy them and get toys from fisher price I believe. Got to Pampers.com to check it out!

I would maybe try the huggies supreme or pampers. I know they say overnites but yea well they dont really mean it..lol..or try giving him a little less milk. I have a 22 month old son and i started filling his cup only halfway and for him alot of the comfort is just having the cup with him not really the contents...hope this helps and good luck

I had the same problems with these diapers, i use the cruisers and haven't had any problems..

Yes, lots of babies drink before bed, then again lots don't. Yours might just need to be one of the ones who doesn't have a bottle before bed. It would solve your problem of leaking diapers.

Have you tried Luvs? I have two boys and they seem to be the only diapers that ever worked well - no leaks. Make sure he's "pointed south" too!

Hello H., I think you should stop giving your baby a bottle right before going to bed. It contributes to the problem. Also, you may want to switch to Pampers or Luvs. I never had problems with any of these brands, and my baby drinks a lot of water during the day!
My baby is 15 mo old, and he has his last meal at 6 o'clock including 4 oz of milk, after that if I notice he is hungry (not usual) he drinks a little bit of vanilla smoothie.(He goes to sleep at 8'oclock)
At this age, babies should have their calories mostly from food than from milk itself, so I suggest you that you give your baby 4-5 oz of milk with each meal. I give my baby 6 oz of milk just in the morning, though.

good luck!!

I started out using pampers on my son and then Huggies. I finally went to Luvs and have not had a problem since. My doctor told me that just like men, little boys pee pees tend to lay to one side. What is happening is that after peeing so much in one place that the diaper is getting full in that area and can't hold any more. Luvs has the leak gaurd and it has taken care of our problems. If it helps, my son is 17 months old and in the 80% in height and weight and we use size 5. By the time he is put in his pj's and goes to bed till the time he gets up is 12hrs with no leaks. He also usually drinks an 8oz sippy cup of milk right before bed. Good luck
Oh, a friend of mine had the same problem and she refused to switch from Pampers so she pushed his pee pee down towards his feet when she put the diaper on. She swears it did the trick. I was afraid of it moving. Besides, Luvs is cheaper anyway.

I think it could be the bottle before bed, too. My son is 20-months and is potty trained. He doesn't get anything an hour or two before bed. My best friends son is almost three and they have that problem even through nap time. I would let your son have drinks at meals and have one out for him the rest of the day, but not carry it around with him. My dad lets my son do that and that is when he pees his pants. Hope this may help.
