Leaking Breasts

I have a two year old son that I did not breastfeed. I am not pregnant, but have noticed that when I sleep on the left side of my body I wake up to wet sheets right under my breast. I am not sure why I am having this leaking. I have no other symptoms. I started a new birth control brand (Alesse) about two weeks ago. I know that when I was pregnant this happened, but that was over two years ago!! Does anyone have any ideas/thoughts about why this would happen?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Your body thinks it is pregany maybe.
Some pills and patches and natral hormones expect in a premature birth does this.

Or it could be a allergry all the way to c word.

Please ask your doctor.

Hope this helps D..

I had this problem too just not bad enough to leave a wet spot. I pumped breastmilk for my daughter for about one month after she was born and my milk didn't completely dry up for like 4-5 years. I know forever. It wasn't alot or really bothersome but they leaked too. I never found out why they did this because I was to embarrased to bring it up to my doctor. I'm now pregnant with #2 (7years from first pregnancy) and so far I'm not having this problem again.

Talk to your doctor! It may be nothing or it could be a sign of something serious. Better safe than sorry!

check with your doctor, but i would say it's probably a side effect of the pills...birth control pills mimic pregnancy in the body....

Are there any new babies in your life (anywhere or any kind). I have a friend who was in her 60's and started leaking or lactating. She called her doctor and the first thing he asked was if she had been around any babies. Her cat had kittens recently. That mom instinct came out even for kittens. My daughter is 3 (I havent nursed since she was 6 months)and sometimes I get that feeling of milk coming in even when I see babies on tv.

I would however suggest that you call your doctor, just to be safe.

Not sure if this is why but, we are meant to breastfeed our children for at least two years so it may not be abnormal for this to occur especially mixed with what ever hormones are in the birth control. I would still contact a midwife, doctor or lactation nurse to be safe.

Yes leaking breast can be very normal even two years after your child's birth. It can also be serious so I would go have it checked with the Dr. FIRST, if I were you, I would take a pregnancy test to make sure your not leaking BECAUSE you're pregnant.

I'm not a doctor, but have read that leakage from your breasts if you are not nursing COULD be a sign of something serious. Some kinds of cancer can cause this. It probably is nothing or maybe the birth control change could cause it, but you can never be too cautious, only your doctor would know. My grandmother died from breast cancer because she was too embarrased to tell her doctor that she was noticing things that were abnormal.(I don't know if leaking from her breasts was one of them, but I did read about it after she was diagnosed. I didn't breastfeed either and did have some leaking, but that stopped by 1 year after my daughter was born. I don't want to scare you, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Perhaps your dosage of the new pill is too strong. Talk to your OBGYN. Good luck!

It could be nothing and maybe it is just related to your new birth control, but it is best to get it checked out. I had a leaking issue over a year after my first was born and I went in. Mine was randomly during the day in very small amounts but would happen most often when I wasn't wearing a bra. They did a breast exam and didn't find anything. She wasn't able to get any milk to come out by squeezing but to be on the safe side she sent me for a mammogram. They did an ultrasound and a mammogram when I went in. Thankfully, they didn't find anything but it could have been something. It at least gave me the peace of mind to know it wasn't anything serious and just an annoyance.
If you get checked out and there is nothing seriously wrong then I would suggest wearing a bra to bed. Not underwires and all of that uncomfortable stuff. When I was done breastfeading my second son I wore a nursing bra that didn't have any clasps or tight elastic so it was comfortable to sleep in. It helped with the leaking for whatever reason.
Good Luck.

BC pills trick your body into thinking it's pregnant, so maybe the new pill has different chemicals/horomones that may have affected your body differently than previous pills. I wouldn't be too worried but consult your doctor if it keeps on happening or becomes too much of a problem. Blessings!

I think you should call your doctor to tell her your left breast is leaking. She would know what to do.

I'm a 57 year old mother of three who breast feed 2 of my children.

Hi, J..

I did not get a chance to read the other responses, but will you please call your OB and let them know about this. It could be the new hormones, but breast discharge is also a sign of breast cancer. It is probably nothing, but you need to be proactive with your health. Set up an appointment if needed and just make sure you've covered your bases. Since you have only been on this new birth control for a short time you could also be pregant. When ever starting a new birth control medication it takes a few weeks for your body to adjust, and if you've had sex without another form of birth control you should also rule this out.

It is probably from the new birth control. Your hormones are confused. Talk to your doctor about it

Call the doctor who prescribed your birth control. Who knows what is causing this and not to alarm you, but it could be something serious. Hopefully it is from your new birth control and you can switch to something else. I went on a generic form of birth control years ago and I had such a side effect that had to do with my breasts that I had to go on the brand name kind instead. Hopefully it is that simple for you, BUT get off this forum and go ask a doctor!

Dear J.,
Yes, it might be your new birth control (I know that mine affected my breasts somewhat when I was on it). It might be something more serious, like cancer (it is worth getting an exam!). Most likely, it is probably in your diet. How much dairy/meat do you eat? I've noticed a HUGE difference in my breasts during my monthly cycle when I cut out meat/dairy products from my diet. When I eat meat/dairy products (which is rare, and usually only on special occasions like holidays, or for lack of other options) my breasts swell to nearly double my bra size (its extremely painful!!). I've never actually lactated, but there have been times when I REALLY thought I was going to start! When I cut out the meat/dairy, I usually don't have any significant swelling in my breast tissue. I believe this is due to consuming the meat/dairy products (and thus, the hormones within them - which, I might add, are especially concentrated in dairy products). I would recommend cutting back on the meat and dairy foods until you know that these are not the culprets.

There is no reason for your breasts to be leaking...this is a sign of a problem. Make an appointment to see your GYN right away. You need to see a doctor. It could be from medication, the Pill, pituitary gland, breast cancer, thyroid condition.....Some womens breast do leak later, but it can be caused by something serious. Get yourself checked.
