Laundry Dilemma - Los Angeles,CA

I have a little laundry problem. My husband left his chapstick in his pocket and it went through the washer and dryer with a load of laundry leaving spotty chapstick marks all over our clothes. I have washed a few times to no avail. Before I waste anymore water, or just throw the clothes out, do any of you have any suggestions? I appreciate it.

Try putting the laundry in the freezer. Once the chapstick is frozen, hopefully it will just flake off. My daughter put something extremely sticky gooey (can't remember what it was) in her pocket and it melted all over. I froze it and it came right out. Good luck!

Don't know if this will help, but I know it works on gum so it may on chapstick. You put a ice cube on it, let it harden up, then chip it away.

I did this with pink chapstick and I was about to throw away my WHITE shirt. I went to the kitchen and SCRUBBED the heck out of it with palmolive dish soap. It came right out! My shirt looked good as new. Try it, it will work!!

Try putting Dawn dish soap on the stains and then spray them with whatever stain remover of your choice. Leave it overnight and then wash. It SHOULD take it out. I hope it works for you!

It isn't always my husband who is the forgetful one, I forget to check his pockets, and get messes!

I have found that Melaleuca Prespot and Solumel will take out those spots. You have to get it from a member, or become one, but I can help with that. If you are interested, get in touch with me, or visit my website:

YIKES! the same thing happened to me. Fortunately it was a cherry chapstick, so it was a little easier to see it. First I had to get the melty globs off the inside of my washer and dryer because every load I ran through just kept getting stained. I used some good de-greasing household cleaner on the spots in the dryer drum that I could see, and made sure it was rinsed off completely. Step two was to tackle the waxy set in stains. I used a combo of dry cleaning fluid and a spot remover called "soil-love" (comes in a green bottle, is cheap and smells terrible, but seems to work well on the wax) and a little dawn dish detergent. I washed the clothes in the hottest water they could tolerate. Chapstick is a really tough stain because it's waxy and greasy. It took about 3 washes but eventually I got most of the stains out of everything. The black clothes were the hardest to get clean because I couldn't really wash them in hot. You might also try the little yellow bottles called Carbona stain devils available at the grocery store. I think there's one formulated for lipstick that might do the trick too.
Best of luck !

Yes! Soak it in Nature Bright from Shaklee. 60% more effective than Oxyclean and completely non-toxic. I see you have a 2 and 4yr old and this product is a must for any parents with little ones. We stain NOTHING now. Shaklee's laundry detergent is amazing too. You can also try the Basic-H Organic Cleaning Concentrate on it. It takes gum out super easy and I bet it would work on chapstick just the same. My lovely husband does this often. So here is what I do, tedious, but it works if you are patient. One word: cornstarch. Rub in the cornstarch on each spot then pile a little on too. Every little spot. Leave it for a day or two. Then wash in HOT water. You may need to repeat if it is bad or set in by the dryer, but I have found this to be my best bet...works with oil (cooking oil) stains too.
