Laundry-how to Get Sticky Tag Residue Off

Ok, I goofed. I missed the tag that sticks on the front of a pair of pants (usually says size, style) and it went through the washer and the dryer. Now I have gluey residue on the front of navy pants. Anyone have a suggestion on how to get if off without destroying the pants? Maybe I could dunk it in hot water and try to scrape it off with my fingernails?

What can I do next?

I would bite the bullet and head to the dry cleaners if the pants are worth it to you. They were brand new, after all.

Try rubbing alcohol. I used it to take off a huge piece of scotch tape and a bandaid off one of my kids' plush toys. I took a q-tip and rubbed it between the fur and the sticky stuff. You could use a cotton ball since you probably pulled off what you could of the sticker. It breaks down the sticky stuff.

I forgot..I also used it on a blanket sleeper that had a bandaid stuck on it and had been washed and dried several times. I had peeled off what I could, they kept getting worn because they were favorites, but it took it all off even after all those years. They are now passed down to the next child and she loves them, sticky bandaid free.

Try ice... I think I have had that work in the past.

I use butter to get goo off of solids. You might try that with your pants.
Goo Gone works for everything.

butter would leave an oil stain too I would think, not sur with the goo gone, maybe try that on a hidden area in the cuff or something. i'm wondering if you used a fine gauge sandpaper or something like that? would freezing make it stiffer for scraping off.
