Late Period - 4 Months After Stopping the Pill

About 4 months ago I stopped taking the pill (I was on the pill for 7 months to control acne) and after that my periods have been just like I was on the pill: every 28 days, over the clock. However, this month my period is late with almost a week which make me a little anxious. Before being on the pill, my periods were every 30-32 days, sometime even 36-38 days. Not sure this is normal when coming off the pill, so just wondering if having my period late this month means more like going to my "normal": a longer menstrual cycle. Thank you!

What can I do next?

I don't think that's surprising at all. Your natural cycles are trying to regulate themselves and there's no reason to think that you would remain on a 28-day cycle indefinitely after discontinuing the pill. Your ovaries are learning how to ovulate after 7 months of being shut down, and every woman's body will work on its own schedule in this regard.

What you do have to be more vigilant about, however, is recognizing that you have no idea when you are going to ovulate. That means you need to be extremely careful about using very reliable birth control unless you are trying to get pregnant. Your cycles are irregular at the present - not that timing and "rhythm" are good methods anyway, but they're even more iffy in your situation. So assume that you are fertile every single day. That's advice we always gave our patients when I was a birth control counselor, and it's good advice to remember.

The pill regulates your period. I suggest that stopping the pill messes with your hormones causing period irregularities to return.

I suggest it takes time for all of the hormones to return to the previous normal. I would not be concerned about this month's pattern unless you've had unprotected sex and don't want to be.pregnant.

Diane B has said well.what you can expect after stopping the pill.

I was always told that when you go off the pill, it takes a while for your cycle to regulate. That's why when I went off it to get pregnant, I waited a few months before trying to predict when I was ovulating.

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking - is it just going back to your regular pattern/length? I would assume so. What else could it be? Are you thinking you might be pregnant?

I've heard stress, etc. can make a period late by a day or two. But I'm guessing it's one of your longer cycles.
