Laser Hair Removal - Mobile,AL

Hey Mamas,

Would you share your experiences with laser hair removal? I know almost nothing, but there's a Groupon in our area right now for a doctor who practices at a local hospital. It's for three treatments with some kind of vaccuum laser that enables the doctor to perform the procedure in 15-20 minutes without numbing. I'd love to be done with bikini waxes! Does it work? Forever? I seem to remember hearing about potential problems with pigment changes. I'm very fair-skinned if that makes a difference (almost transparent :-/). Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I have had laser hair removal on my underarms. Mine was done with a Sonata laser and I got good results from 5 treatments. I have fair skin and dark hair, which makes me a good candidate for laser hair removal, someone with different coloring may not get the kind of results I did. Results will also depend of the type of laser used and the experience of the technician using the machine. Most patients get 80-90% hair reduction from 5-8 treatments. But again it will depend on the machine. I'm not sure that 3 treatments is going to be enough to get really good results, but that would be a good question for the doctor doing the procedure.
If you have treatments and have hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, etc) you can end up getting hair back. I had my treatments before I got pregnant and went from having about 2 hairs under each arm to having nearly all the hair come back.
I have worked at a medical spa where we offer laser hair removal for the last 5 1/2 years, and these are the things I tell patients before they have treatments. Hope this helps!

I don't know about that kind of laser, specifically, but laser hair removal does work. However, it usually takes more than one treatment. You'll have to ask them about the pigment changes. I had my stomach done, many years ago, and had no pigment changes.

Yes, go buy that Groupon and have your laser hair removal! I had laser hair removal on my bikini area and underarms and it made my life so much easier! I am also fair-skinned, and I was told that people who are fair-skinned make the best candidates. I am jealous about this vacuum procedure that doesn't require numbing. I was a big baby and needed numbing (and also requested ice gel). I didn't have any pigment changes - I wouldn't worry about that. Besides, I'd rather have a pigment change than be a hairy gorilla! Good luck and I hope it won't hurt!

I had laser hair removal on my arms. The hair was very long and I hated it. If I remember correctly, after three treatments the hair still grew back in patches. The machine kind of looked like the upholstery attachment to the vacuum, so I guess it depends on how well she hits that area. For a while, I used to shave my arms still to knock off the little straggly hairs that grew back, but now it doesn't seem to come back.

I am olive skinned with dark hair. I had a light blotch on my arm for a while but it went away. I also got burned once.

I had it done on my bikini area about 10 years back and the results are still great. I get a few stragglers every month, but not a big deal. I think I had about 6 treatments. I think it hurt a little, but well worth it in the long run.

My next step is to have the rest of that area done.
