Language Arts Free/cheap Curriculum
I am homeschooling my third grader. I am using Switched on School House, but am not finding any supplemental type stuff to reinforce his lessons (like practice type stuff for daily work/homework). Like right now he's done a lesson on Main Idea. So, I'd like to find something that would reinforce main idea for third grade level.
Thanks!

Who needs to buy something. Watch a show, read a short book with a moral (Aesop, NT parables), etc. Then discuss the main idea. Have him write it down and talk about it later, too. Show him that you find these literary details everywhere in life, not just in workbooks.

Check out Wordly Wise and Explode the Code. You can look at them at Mardel. They have many different levels....you'll need to decide which levels he will need.
Happy Homeschooling!

Check the teacher store for Measure Up (Reading follow up activities). I used this when I taught third grade Reading. It covers Main Idea, Summarizing, Fact/Opinion and a lot more.
Good Luck.
Let me know if I can help.

I don't know where you live, but I belong to the Denton County Homeschool Association. If you get involved with a group like that they have email loops where these kinds of questions are easily answered. Being part of the group doesn't mean you have to do anything with them but they organize some awesome fieldtrips and have great co-ops for those who are looking. Just thought I would share just in case you didn't know to look for a group in your area. Usually they are like $25 a year to join.

K., if you know exactly what you are looking for, go to www.vegsource.com, they have a homeschooling link where you can find items for sale or post a wanted to buy. Also check http://www.cathyduffyreviews.com/ for reviews on different curriculums. We have been homeschooling from the start, we have to great kids, one 13 year old boy and our daughter is 12.
Hope this helps.

K.,
I find a lot of good links through the newsletters of http://www.thehomeschoolmagazine.com/E_News/index.php.
They have a freebie friday where someone lists several sites that have free info/worksheets/etc dealing with different topics. It might help narrow your search down.
I am HS a 3rd grader and a 1st grader for the first time this year and I have already used some of the suggestions they made and have also googled "how to teach _______" b/c we are having trouble with it.
We are using Time4Learning and Heart of Dakota.
Feel free to email me if you want to chat. : )
