Lactating from Going on the Pill

I am having the weirdest reaction to going on Birth Control Pills. I just started taking Birth Control Pills 4 weeks ago. Immediately my breasts grew back to pre-baby size. Not really going to complain about that, considering they were pretty sad after breastfeeding for a year. My son is 3 1/2 and I stopped nursing him right before his first birthday. Well, so suddenly today, 2 days before my period is "scheduled" to occur, my right nipple started tingling and lactating a little bit! has anyone had this happen to them? Does it go away? Should I call a Dr.?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all of the kind advice! While it only lasted for one day, I did call my doctor-she did say that it is a common reaction but I am having my thyroid checked to be on the safe side. Thanks again!

I have not had this happen; but it is possible that it is unrelated to going on the pill, so I would definitely see a doctor right away. I have a couple of good friends who started lactating (one was a male) because of a benign tumor on their pituitary gland. In both instances they were able to shrink it with medication. Good luck.

I haD this a few times before getting my period. I'm not even on any birth control, I guess I just have plenty of hormones. My dr. said it's normal for it to happen before a period. It happens to me randomly, not every month and it surprises me every time I see a drop of milk since my youngest is almost 4! If it dosen't go away after your period you might want to see your dr.

I would visit the doctor, you are probably fine, but they will test your thyroid and such. I had the same thing, and it was nothing the doctor said. I nursed my daughter for almost a year and then after she was 3 I started having a little come out of the nipple from time to time, and I am on the pill and not pregnant. Some people have this, but get it checked out to rule out any other problems!

I am not on the pill but on Depo, but my reaction is similar. Unfortunately my breast size hasn't grown, but I am still lactating. I haven't breast fed in over three years. I talked to my doctor about it, they all agreed it wasn't the normal side effect, but was possible. They ran tests anyway and everthing came back clean. So I don't worry about it now. I'm saying don't worry, but talk to your doctor anyway.

Yes, pregnancy is very possible, but my daughter is 6 and I can still squeeze some out around my period time. Ask your doc, but I'm sure it's normal.

dear R. make an appointment to see your doctor as it can be so many reasons but you need evaluation such as clinical breast exam and perhaps serum prolactine test.good luck.
