Labels for Clothing and Food Containers

Wondering if you have labels that you love for your children's clothing. I am looking for some that are durrable, don't fall off in the laundry and stay where you put them, rather than sliding around and leaving a sticky gooey mess in their wake. I have ordered some in the past that I thought were great, but the company has gone out of business. I tried another company and their product was beyond awful. So this time I wised up and decided to ask the experts - my fellow mamas.
Thanks for your feedback.

Buying "labels" cost money and can be expensive etc. and to me is a waste of time.

I have 2 kids.
And what I have always done and used, are Sharpie pens. There is also a laundry marker too.
I label my kids clothes/lunch bags, with it and their water bottles etc.
And if the pen ink washes away eventually, all you do is re-write it on the item. Easy!

I use a sharpie on everything. I write kiddo's initial's on their coats, leo's, shorts, undies, jeans, tops, etc....don't do socks though. Just don't care enough about them to worry I guess.

The only time I've labeled my kids regular clothing is for summer camp. I used a fine-tip Sharpie to write their initials on the tags.

Sharpie--back of tag.

In a pinch I have used masking tape on the back of the tag.
I would think sewn in labels would be the best.

Use a sharpie! Really the only clothes that need a label are jackets or things they'll take off.

Mabel's Labels, hands down. I've used them since DD was a toddler and I can count the number that fell off anything on one hand. Usually that was my own fault (putting the label on the fabric of a life vest vs the buckle). They stick really well and we use them for kid gear, lunch gear, clothes, shoes, camping gear, electronics, college gear....When they have a sale, I stock up. I have sippy cups that DD outgrew where the label is still nearly new after being abused by a kid for several years.

I stopped using sharpies because I had to re-write them after so many washes. The labels are quick and clear. If the labels fall off (rare), they don't leave a mess. I honestly don't treat them very well. I labelled DD's lunchbox in preschool and the labels are all intact more than a year later. I even put sticky labels on the bottoms of DD's snowboots this year. Still there.

Can you use the icky gooey gluey labels and sew a stitch in the 4 corners?

I also love Mabel's Labels. They hold up through everything! They are a little spendy, but they last so long. I'm still have unused labels that I got when my daughter was an infant--almost 7 years ago! I rarely have to replace a label. I think there have only been one or two times when I have had to replace a label on an item and that was because one of the kids pulled it off. They have a couple of different labels specifically for clothing and shoes and labels for other items. I've used the labels interchangeably on both clothing and non-clothing items. They go through the wash, the dishwasher, normal kid wear and tear. When you take them off they do leave a little bit of a sticky residue, but it comes off easily with just a little bit of Goo Be Gone. Normally I don't spend money on things like that, but when I was labeling bottles of breast milk for daycare I had to have something permanent. Fell in love with the labels! They also have allergy awareness labels that are great.

I don't use Sharpies just because it can't be removed as easily. When my kids outgrow something I don't want to cut out a size label or have their names or initials still on something that could be passed on to someone else to use.
