I've heard great things about Lifetime Fitness - but am wondering about LA Fitness. Any info? I'm interested in the one off George Bush in Plano. Do you have to sign a contract? How is childcare? Are they pushy when you first go in? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the info!

So What Happened?

I went to LA Fitness this past Saturday and joined. I loved the facility. I've gone that past 2 mornings to work out and feel so good! I enjoy being home before my son wakes up and shower and be ready for our day so early. Thanks to everyone for your resonses.

I used to be a member of 24Hour Fitness. I joined LA Fitness when they opened the the gym in Rowlett. As soon as I visited the LA Fitness off of 190/Coit, I cancelled my 24 Hour membership the next day.

LA Fitness childcare facilities are much nicer than 24Hour Fitness. I was a member of 24Hour Fitness since I moved here in 1999, but I'm getting more for my money at LA Fitness. I just wish they had a more advanced level step class.

Hi S.,
I belong to the LA fitness on Coit/GB and have really loved it. The kid care was my main reason for joining (i was comparing to 24 hr Fitness as Lifetime was too far for me.) The people working there are really sweet and patient with my little girl, who is going through separation anxiety. The staff is very nice overall. When I investigated last summer, it was cheaper than other gyms as they are trying to boost membership. They would allow you to go month to month at first, I think, to try it out. You can also just ask for a 1 week pass to try it. There is a lot of room for negotiation on gym contracts, I have found. The kid care is free w/ membership. The classes are great. It doesn't have quite the amenities of Lifetime from what I've heard, but if you are just looking for cardio machines, lifting, classes, and a pool, you can't go wrong w/ LA Fitness. Good luck whatever you decide!

I go to LA Fitness in Plano 190/Coit (and have been since it's opening there a year ago) and I absolutely love it!! I love the classes and the variety I have with my workouts. The childcare is good too. They know my son by name and they tell me how he did. The early evenings (during evening rush hour) gets crowded sometimes so I try to go in the mornings. I really enjoy this gym...nice facilities, clean locker rooms with carpet and wooden lockers, clean equipment, GREAT classes! I didn't have to sign a contract. I go month-to-month and I can go to any LA Fitness in Texas. This monthly fee is $20 less than what I was paying at 24 Hr Fitness. I'm saving big-time and getting better facilities! I didn't think they were pushy...they did initially ask me if I wanted a free fitness assessment from a trainer -- I turned that down because (a.)I know how to use the equipment and (b.)my past experiences have shown that this "fitness assessment" is nothing more than a sales pitch for signing up for a personal trainer. Every gym does this (I've been a member at 3 different ones). So if you don't care about a personal trainer you can turn that "personal assessment" appointment down. That was the only thing they asked me about that was extra -- and they didn't push it on me at all. Once I said no, i wasn't interested -- they dropped it.
Good luck!

I go to LA Fitness in Lake Highlands and love it. I've been very happy with the child care. It does get a little crowded sometimes during the different exercise classes but the ladies that work with the kids are so nice. I did not have to sign a contract, just had to pay first and last month dues and enrollment. I didn't feel like they were pushy.

I just left Lifetime Fitness and signed up at LA Fitness last month. I switched because the nearest Lifetime to me is the North Garland gym, and was costing me a fortune in driving and toll.
They just built an LA Fitness a few blocks from my house, so it's much more convenient.
LA Fitness is also a lot less expensive membership-wise. There's no contract, and the childcare is stellar.
Both gyms are kept clean, but Lifetime does provide more amenities. Childcare is also wonderful at Lifetime, with a much bigger play area, including a basketball court.
I really have no complaints against either gym, so it just depends on what you are looking for in amenities and cost.
