Hi Mamas,

So my 2 year old has sensitive skin. We tried several brands (Weleda, Burt's Bees, etc.) of body lotion for him, which resulted in rashes. We'd been using Earth Mama Angel Baby lotion for over a year with great results and then all of a sudden he's getting a rash from it (nothing else has changed, so I'm pretty sure it's the lotion). Any recommendations for a hypoallergenic lotion, fragrance free, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and that you can easily get either at a big box store like Target or through Amazon?

I've done a little searching and seen recommendations for Cetaphil and California Baby's Sensitive Skin everyday lotion. Anyone have experience with either of those?

Thanks a million!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great ideas, Mamas! We've started with Cetaphil and that seems to be doing the trick so far. I appreciate your help.

We use Vanicream per Dermatologist recommendation - it can be found at Walgreen's and also behind the pharmacy counter at Target and CVS. They have a product line that includes sunscreen, etc.

We used Cetaphil, but really loved Aveeno especially the shea butter. We never used the baby version, the adult version on the advice of her pediatrician. You can find it at any big box store, grocery store or drug store.

Try a pure oil, like food grade olive or coconut oil. Those work best for my kids who have allergies and eczema.

My daughter has had milk excema since birth. We have always used Eucerin, which is quite thick and recommended by dermatologists.

Cetaphil is very good. My husband's dermatologist told him to use Cera Ve, which you can find in drug stores. I don't for a FACT know that it's good for infants, but it is good for sensitive skin, so you might try that.

Cetaphil was rec'd by our peditrician as well as a pediatric allergist for our son, and it has worked great. He's been using it for over 2yrs now. Like someone else said get the cream in the tub rather than the lotion. Costco even sells it by us for the best price, but I think its at all of the major drug stores.

My kids have extremely sensitive skin. They have broken out from California Baby's bath wash (I have never tried the lotion). The lotion that has been our lifesaver is Curel Continuous Comfort Fragrance Free. My father also has adult eczema that he has battled all his life, and he also recommends Curel to anyone and everyone. You can buy this at any and all big box stores, grocery stores, drug stores. It is not hard to find.

I live on Eucerin. That is the only stuff that calms down my eczema - well that and Three Bees wax. LOVE that stuff. California Baby's supposed to be good - have you tried Mustela? We used that but on our infant, not on toddler skin, which is closer to an adult's... Our pediatrician recommended Triple Paste when stuff got bad last year for a bit on our 10 YODS. Worked great. Not big on petrochemicals tho.... I would stay away from the Aveeno stuff - they add Almond oil to everything and you never know when a random food allergy will pop up (at least not at our house! LOL).... nuts are no no here....as well as lactic acid.... If baby is at all lactose intolerant I'd keep away from anything with lactic acid in it too. Good luck mama!

I love California Baby products and have never had any problems with them. The company swears that ALL the ingredients are natural. Target carries it. You can also try Earth's Best Organic, Target carries that too. I would stay with all natural and/or organic products. The major brands can add small amounts of chemicals and not have to legally list them.

I was going to suggest EMAB...
I used to use California Baby on my DD (the heavier cream lotion w/ lavender in it) when she had really dry patchy skin.
Never gave her a rash.
Now I am using CB calming body wash on my son and I think it has caused him white bumps on his arms. Not positive though.
Looking at the ingredients of Cetaphil and I would probably opt not to put that on my child-or myself.
I do like this company: http://organixsouth.com/theraneem.html?SID=3fss05lkt3rh2j...
And this one: https://www.keys-soap.com/ostore/home.php
I don't hesitate to use them on my kids even though they don't seem to have kid lines (I know I've seen kids TheraNeem at the store though).
HTH!

I always used the Unscented Aveeno Baby lotion for my son's sensitive skin. It worked for us--I still use it for myself sometimes!
