I asked around about the same thing for my soon-to-be 4-year-old son. However, everyone I spoke to said they should be able to read before their first lesson.

Win Kids in Flower Mound starts at age 5 and has a great experienced teacher :)

My nine year old daughter has been taking piano for 1 1/2 years and her teacher recommends age seven at the earliest. Not only do they need a little reading experience but also need a little bit bigger and stronger hands to play. My daughter will tell you she never realized it took so much finger strength to play the piano (not the keyboard), she understands now why her teacher makes her do so many finger excercises.

Good afternoon! I will have to disagree with everyone else. I started piano lessons at the age of two and have been playing ever since. I am not as into as I once was but I still love it. I live in the Saginaw area and could teach her in your home if you would like and have a piano. I do not have one in my home at this time. The first year or so would be learning the basics, some I think expect way to much. Let me know if you would like to talk more! H.

Dear E.,

If you want to start her in piano now, it would have to be with someone who teaches kids that young. I'm a piano teacher but I only start them after they've been in school a year or two. I've found that's when its easiest for them to learn, at least with the method I use. But there are some out there that use other methods.

Hope this helps.
