Know Any Good Bakeries?

My son's first birthday is coming up in March and I was wondering if any moms had bakery recommendations (I'm in Highland Park/Shadyside)- I'm looking for a bakery to make a truly yummy (adult/kid) cake with cute car/truck or zoo animal decorations. I'm also looking for a bakery that would make a specific smash cake for my son - a wholesome cake that won't send him into a sugar coma...like an all-natural carrot cake or something like that... any ideas?

What can I do next?

My first thought is Bethel Bakery - awesome cakes! also know from wedding cake search that Patty Cake is very popular - there's also a place that used to be called Christopher's in Murrysville - believe it or not jI ust had a Sam's club cake that was great but icing very sweet - any grocery store has smash cakes - USA Gourmet in the Strip - Moio's is popular but Bethel is way better! Oh, almost forgot - Whole Foods in East Liberty has really yummy stuff - fancy too - and one of their "regular" cakes could be a smash cake - my youngest has allergies so we did a vegan cake for her 1st - cost about $14 and was surprisingly very good - especially the chocolate - and they do a phenomenal job w/ decorating! let us know what you find! have fun!

Prantls's, Bethel, and Patty Cake are all wonderful. We also like Moio's in Monroville next to Valley Honda. We get all of our birthday cakes there. Whole Foods has totally yummy cakes as well. Their carrot cake is fabulous and I usually don't like carrot cake.

Don't know how you feel about a bit of a drive but the Ultimate Pastry in Sewickley is VERY good and you can also call a catering company...Michael Lench ###-###-####... in the south side....he also makes very good desserts. Let me know if you get any other good ideas as my princess will be 3 in March and I am looking for any ideas too

Hi, at my old job all of my co-workers and I swore by Oakmont Bakery right off of the Hulton Bridge in Oakmont. They have the best almond torte cake. We loved all of their pastries. Also, a far drive, is Pastries-ala-Carte in West Mifflin. They have a very good icing and there cakes are scrumptious! Good Luck!

The best baked goods I've had in Pittsburgh come from Prantls on Walnut Street in Shadyside. The burnt almond torte is to die for - but it will definitely send you all into a sugar coma. But it's worth it!
