We are debating between a white granite kitchen sink or stainless steel kitchen sink. Any advice?
What do you use to clean your granite or stainless?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Gosh! I am more confused now because I was always under the impression that granite would not scratch!
By the way, we are not replacing counters (corian), just the sink.

A few months ago one of the news programs on NBC reported a studies about how they found high levels of radon (I believe) in granite. It is found in the ground which common. I would do some research since I don't have the exacts and don't want to give you miss information.

We have a Silgranit sink in our new house and love it. It is highly resistant to scratching and chipping. It is very light in color and have had no issues with stains. You can use a bleach/water or just soap/water and have no issues. We love it. At our old house, we had stainless and it stratched really easily.

After living with granite counter tops for over a year now, I wouldn't think of having a granite sink. While they are beautiful, they require maintenance. They must be properly sealed then require cleaning supplies that are granite safe and must be resealed (I think 6 mo to annually) to keep the shine. I was also told that a lighter color granite will show stains (like coffee rings) and such.

I have a black granite sink that is at least 8 yrs old and it has lots of scratches from the previous owners and if I do not keep it polished you can see them. I would not choose one personally after seeing this one not age well. I hope this helps.

I just got granite countertops and hate maintaining them. I would go crazy trying to maintain a granite sink. Yikes! Go with stainless.

Hey S.,
We put granite counters and a composite granite sink in our house about a year ago. Our sink is not straight granite - since it's a composite it's really easy to clean. We just use Windex without ammonia or simply wash it out with soap and water. Our stainless sink which we had before had so many scratches and some rust stains around the covers that covered some parts of the top. We LOVE our granite sink! Ours is black and we got it at Home Depot for less than $300.

I have a stainless steel sink and love it. It is easy to clean, we use Comet or that type cleaner.

Good luck on your decision!

Hi S., my husband is a contractor and just put a new granite sink in my best friends house. It is so awesome. It looks so great and the water just beads right off of it. I have a pured corian sink and hope never to have stainless again. It just scratches too much and it too hard to keep looking clean. I hope that helps. If you want some specific details on it. PM me and I can find out exacltey what it was called and where she got it. I love it! Thanks
