Hi mammas! I need your help. My 11 yr old daughter has a laptaop and a ipod touch. For Christmas the only item she is asking for is a ipad. We do not want to get it for her since we feel she would stop using the laptop and ipod touch. So, we decided on a kindle fire??? or a nook color or tablet??? The question is what is the difference of these two and which would you recommend? I know they both run around $200-250. She wants to play games, read, take pictures,go online, skype.....thank you in advance!

What can I do next?

FYI - no camera on the Kindle Fire either; so no Skype with either one.

We are getting the Ematic Twig at Walmart. It is small like a cell phone and may not be anything like what you are looking for but it's only about $70. It is exactly like my android touch phone but is not a phone. It uses the same android market and goes online, etc...just like a phone so maybe not what you are wanting.

NOOK COLOR!!! Just the fact that you can go right into the store if you have any questions was one of the reasons I got it for my mom. She's 65 and doesn't like gadgets because she's afraid she won't know how to use it. Got any problems, just drive to B&N. Customer service is great! Plus there are many free books. Lots of classics, which she'll most probably be reading soon anyway.

The better is the Nook Tablet. IT's the upgrade for the Nook Color
It's faster than the Kindle Fire and it takes a Micro SD card which means you can expand the memory. The Kindle does not expand.
It also takes more formats of things, neigher one has a skype ap, they don't have cameras. like SB said the Kindle only uses book formats from Amazon and if you need customer service for some reason you can take the nook into Barnes and noble to the nook specialist , Kindle you have to call customer service. The Nook Specialst at B&N give GREAT customer service, I had an issue with my Nook Color that I didn't buy at B&N, I took it in, it was a hardware issue it turns out I got a bad one, they sent me a new one no questions asked I had it with in 3 days of going in and talking to them.

I keep seeing people complain about the Kindle because you can only get your books from Amazon, this is no longer true you can get them from your local library too. I bought the basic Kindle for my 11 year old granddaughter, this is for her to read with not play the games or watch movies, she can do this with her computer and her Ipod. Amazon also has free book offers and some that are really cheap. Ohh an I bought myself one too.

My sister just went through this debate. She said that both were great for reading, games, etc. It's easier to find stuff for the nook. It will accept PDFs and other formats. The Kindle is more proprietary and you have to get the books from Amazon. I have a Nook and love it. She decided on the Kindle Fire. She said that she was leaning towards the Nook because it accepts more formats and she liked reading on it a bit more, but internet access on the Kindle was much faster. I don't think either one has the ability to skype or take pictures (I know the Nook doesn't).

I have the Kindle Fire and love it. I use it for recipes, books, games and facebook. It does what I want it to do. My smart phone does the rest or I have my computer too. My kids love playing on my Kindle and download games from the apps free from Amazon. It just depends on what you or 11 year old wants. Either is a good choice.
