Kindergarten Recs!

My daughter starts Kindergarten next Fall. We are zoned for a school in DISD (that I will not name, so I don't step on any toes) and we are not excited about it...at all. We missed the RISD- Brentfield line by not even half a mile!

My daughter goes to a fabulous, church-based Pre-K right now & they DO have a K program. However, it is only 4 days a week, from 9-1:45. This will not work for us because I will be student teaching in the Fall & (hopefully) teaching in the Spring. I am looking for a FULL DAY, 5 day, K program. I am open to doing a "district transfer" if anyone knows of a GOOD DISD school that I could try to transfer to...we are FAR north dallas though..so I keep finding that they are all out of our way. As far as private K's go... The only one I have looked into was Trinity Christian which is 11,000 for K & that's a little out of our price range! I have looked at the website for Primrose, but I'm not sure what their K programs run...does anyone know?
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!

What can I do next?

Look into some Montessori schools around you. The Westwood School is a very good school and I know there are some public Montessori schools within DISD that are free. A Montessori education is wonderful and you may even stay with it throughout elementary ages.

Not sure about good DISD schools but wanted to give you a little info on private school options:

1. If you like TCA contact their admissions office and ask about financial aid.
2. I think Bent Tree Child Development Center (next door to TCA) has a K program -- some kids who are wait-listed for Kinder at Trinity Christian go to Bent Tree CDC
3. Prestonwood Christian Academy is hosting a private school fair on 10/24/09 that is open to the public. Check their website or call ###-###-#### for info.

Good luck!

Look into some of the charter schools in the area too. Some are definatly better than others, but there are great ones out there. They are considered "public" schools and are free to attend, but they have the feel of a private school because they are so small.

Good Luck!

Hi N....there are several wonderful elem. schools in DISD..Hexter Elem. would be a great one...exemp. and blue ribbon school. Start by going to the website.(disd.org I think, you might need to google it) and look for the exemp. schools and visit them and you can get a pretty good idea if it is a fit for your child. Dont give up on public school. Good luck

Hi N., how are you? You don't specify what state you live in, but if I were you, I would either talk with the state or a case manager about your issues or even see a physciatrist if at all possible. Hope this helps, and have a great day.

Last I checked, Primrose ran $215 per week. that includes all day from 6:30-6:30 as well as lunch and snacks.

I don't know anything about the DISD but I would say, if you like your daughter's preschool you might look into just finding some daycare options for after school hours so you can keep her at a school you know you can trust.

Our children go to St. Rita at Inwood & Harvest Hill. I believe K-8 is about $6000 a year. We were married there & it is a wonderful place to send your kids and raise your family. You can look it up at www.strita.net.
