Kidneys Hurting

I had a UTI that turned into a kidney infection. This all started 3 1/2 weeks ago. I am done with my anti-biotics for kidney infection. However I am in a lot of pain, and I feel like the UTI has come back. My question is, when should I go to the E.R.? Is this a serious issue, or can I wait to see my primary care doctor?

What can I do next?

My daughter had a uti a couple of weeks ago. The doc told her that if she had any pain at all in her back, we were to call and get her in there right away. It could be kidney stones. You want to get it taken care of right away.

I have had multiple (too many to count) kidney stones and, recently, a kidney infection that landed me in the hospital for 5 days.

More than likely, yes, you can see your PCP. I would call right now. This is not an emergency that needs to be dealt with in the next 2 hours (unless you are in a lot of pain), but I would make the phone call right now and insist that they find time to see you today.

Are you running a fever? If you are, make sure you mention that on the phone.

Kidney infections are no joke. They can become very serious if not treated.

Since it's a weekday, and during normal business hours, why don't you call your doctor right now and see what he/she says? You should be able to at least talk to a nurse, who can consult with the doctor, and get back to you within an hour or so.

If you are running a fever and are in pain? You should call your doctor who is treating you for the UTI and Kidney infection and let them know what is going on. If they tell you to go to the ER - then you go to the ER. IF they want to see you? Then you go to their office.

You do NOT mess with your kidneys!!

You shouldn't go to the E.R. for this. Please call your primary care doc's office and make an appointment for as soon as possible. If that means that you have to see a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant, do so. You can often get in with one of those that afternoon. If you cannot get in today, go to Urgent Care, not the E.R.

I would hope your doctor could see you right away - like now.
If not then get to the ER.
Are you sure you don't have kidney stones?
They can be very painful.

I'm sure your doctor told you to call if you had any questions or your condition didn't improve. Call your doctor.

The ER is for conditions that are serious, sudden, and nforeseen, where delay in treatment would compromise your health. Call your primary care or use an urgent care

I had a UTI once. The day after I finished he antibiotic I had terrible, debilitating pain. I called the doctor thinking the infection had come back. He said it could not have come back that fast and he prescribed medicine for bladder spasms. That fixed it. Call your doctor.

Get back in there. Refuse to leave until they can tell you what's wrong and give you meds for it. Your kidneys are precious and you don't want to take any chances...
