Keurig Machine --Worth the Bucks?

I have one that my inlaws bought us and I never use it unless they buy us the k-cups. I think that they are WAY too expensive and told them that when they mentioned getting us one. However, I think that you can buy a reusable filter and use it with just regular loose coffee so that might be an option.

I have the cusinart brand for k cups and love it. No more wasted or old tasting coffee. My friend has one made by Mr. Coffee that is probably very reasonably priced.

They generate a whole lot of non biodegradable garbage with all those individual cartridges.

It's worth it if you'd normally make and waste most of a pot of coffee each day. It's worth it if you're the only coffee drinker in the house. It's worth it if you and your SO like different types of hot beverages. It's also a good idea for an office, because then no one feels forced into just drinking coffee - you can have all different types of coffees, teas, you can do hot chocolate, etc., etc.

The permanent filter is great and cost saving, but you do need to be careful about the grind on your coffee if you go this route (it needs to be coarse, not fine).

A lot of the grocery chains now carry their own brand of "K-cup" knock offs, so there are cheaper versions of them now. Amazon has them for a reasonable price and if you sign up for their delivery service, you get a discount. And, I'm sorry, but they are NOT a dollar each. That's ridiculous.

Regarding the "strength" of the coffee, there are LOTS of different ones out there, and there are some very strong ones out there, so you can experiment until you find one that you like.

I say, go for it!! If taken care of properly the machines last a long time. I have had mine since they first came out and it's still going strong. Just make sure you're not using regular tap water.

I love love love mine. K cups are expensive so we bought the cafe cup from Amazon and use our favorite coffee. Works great. Keep the K cups for when I am in a hurry. Keurig also makes a filter. I recommend this coffee maker to everyone.

I am not a fan of Keurig. The taste is really "off" to me and it's terrible for the environment.

I suggest getting a french press travel mug for your coffee at work. Great coffee, and you can clean it up at home! :)

We have one at work and it's nice when there are people who want varying strengths of coffee or some want decaf, half-caf or fully caffeinated. We have some who prefer tea or cocoa.

You can buy K-Cups at Walmart or the grocery store and there are many different brands so you don't have to buy Keurig brand at all. You can buy your grocer's store brand K-cups.

You can buy green K-cups that are reusable forever. I have a durable plastic one that you don't even need a filter for and I put my own coffee in it and bring that in a baggie that I put in the freezer at work.

If you want to get a less expensive machine, Keurig and Mr. Coffee paired up and made one. I bought that one for far less than a regular Keurig and while it's not nearly as delicious as my French Press, it's still good. It's convenient when I have unexpected company and no time to brew in my French Press. Clean up is easy.

But seriously, save a ton of money on the K-cups by buying a green cup/reusable cup if you do get a Keurig. They work in all Keurig machines.

Keurigs are awful expensive and just for one cup. Both the machine and the coffee are expensive. While I was shopping and considering buying one I found a Bella one cup maker at Kohl's. It cost 19.99. It brews up to 12 oz cups. It has a filter in which you put your coffee and then fill up the resevoir just like you do with a full sized maker or a Keurig. Push the switch and a few minutes later there's a cup of coffee. I love it!

It says you can use the Keurig style cups in it which I have tried. You do have to take the top off the cup before putting it into the coffee maker. The cups are expensive and I think the coffee isn't any better than the regular coffee I buy.

The maker is smaller than a Keurig and therefore takes up less space. It's smaller than a small 4 cup coffee maker.

We love ours. I love the fresh brewed taste, every cup. If you compare, you can get k cups for less than 50 cents each. If you buy online through the company, it can cost as little as 43 to 45 cents each. Compared to the ridiculous $5 cup at starbucks, it is cheap for your morning enjoyment.

It wouldn't be worth it to me because I drink a couple of pots of coffee a day. I bring a thermos full of coffee with me to work.
Do you only drink your one cup a day after you get to work?
Seems to me that if you only drink one cup a day, then buying an expensive machine wouldn't be worth it, especially if you have a coffeemaker at home.

I feel it depends on how you like y our coffee...I prefer deli style coffee and the keurig didn't satisfy me. The k cups are like $1 each and if you're only drinking 1 cup, I'd say no. Unless you love the taste of course!

No...I did not like mine at all and tossed in the trash!!! I am back to my Mr. Coffee.

I've had my Keurig for 6 years and I LOVE it. You can buy a "My K-Cup" and put your own coffee in it, or you can buy the K-cups. Check out Big Cat Coffees for great deals on K-Cups...in LOTS of great blends and flavors. You can also buy the Folger's K-Cups from Sam's Club for a lot cheaper than anywhere else, if you're not a coffee snob who wants other blends (like me).

I'm a 1-cup only drinker as well. I don't like using a big coffee pot because it's messy and I end up wasting so much. Plus, it burns the coffee, leaving it on the hot-plate.

Environmental issues aside, I don't think it makes financial sense. My husband keeps wanting to get one, but my thought is that it would just encourage me to drink more specialty coffees (more calories) when I would normally just brew up some plain black coffee. I know myself and I know that every time I put one of those little cups in I'd be calculating how much my cup of coffee was costing me for the day. (Plus, if you're using it in your office are other people going to be snatching your cups? I had an instant specialty coffee in my office and people were always snatching a scoop here or there, which inevitably left me buying more and more and wondering why the heck I was always almost out).

It depends on the person, but if I'm being 100% honest, even if I got one as a gift I wouldn't want it.

I've seen those travel mugs with the french press in them, that is something I might be tempted to try.

i have a cusinart keurig and i love it. i use regular coffee in the reuseable cups and save even more money. i love that i can have a cup of coffee anytime and not have any waste!!

The machines are fine, but I don't think the coffee is as good as brewing normally. I like my coffee strong, and the K-cups are premeasured, so you can't alter the grounds to water ratio (you adjust strength by changing water temp, but "strong" is pretty much a normal cup of coffee IMO, not a strong cup).

We have the machines in our team rooms at work (I'm a teacher), and they work well there since we each bring out own k-cups and you coffee gets made when you want it, but I would never use it at home. If all you drink is one cup of coffee, why not get one of the small single cup brewers (that brew normally from grounds, but dispense into a cup like a Keurig machine)?

I like mine but only get the cups from the company because it is so much cheaper than even buying them at Walmart.

I would just get a coffee maker and put extra scoops in the top when making that one cup of coffee.

Sorry I don't have personal experience, but for what it's worth my parents LOVE theirs. They even travel with it. Sounds to me like it would be worth it. If you buy one to use at work, can you keep it to yourself, or would you have to share with co-workers?

We love our Keurig. I only drink one cup of coffee a day, and my husband drinks one or two, so it is perfect for us. Some of the strong k-cups we like are: jet fuel, black tiger, and eight o'clock columbian (the first two we buy online, the third is from the grocery store). We always get deals online, like buy 6 boxes, get free shipping and a percentage off. Never buy K-cups full price!

Also, we like to use the hot water from the Keurig to make tea -- just put a t-bag in your mug and place it under the Keurig without a k-cup.
