My son had kawasaki at 2 years old. He is now 6. Within the last 4 weeks we have gone thru all of the same things again with him. Red tounge, fever, rash peeing hands and feet, weight loss ,etc.... His pediatrician said it was too rare to get it again. I fought him and made him do labs and i ordered him to contact cardiology. Both said no to kawasaki but could not tell me what it was. His hands and feet are peeling more tis time than last. Anyone have any ideas who to contact or what to do?

Possibly an autoimmune disease. Is the doctor treating him for anything? Have you considered seeing an osteopathic dr? If you are in the Cleveland area there are several. Dr Tenpenny or Dr Cheryl Leuthauser. Dr CHeryl works with children more. Her practice is called Integrative Wellness in Richfield Ohio. People travel from outside the state just to see her.

Our son had Kawasaki also at 2 years old but luckily nothing after that. He's in college now. However, we did follow up and still do with a cardiologist. My only advice to you would be to go to Rainbow and try to get in with an infectious disease doctor. How frustrating for you to be dismissed like that! Maybe it's not Kawasaki but you deserve to be heard and have him tested. It's always better to err on the side of caution. Good luck to you and your son. He's certainly blessed to have you on his side!

I don't know what to tell you But my daughter used to get the peeling of the hands and feet and we started using Melaleuca children's Vitamins and their Renew Lotion and it went away. The lotion at least can relive the discomfort.
If you want more info let me know
Good Luck

Could be hand, foot & mouth. My daughter got it this past spring. It's a pretty common virus. Puts a rash on their extremities & blisters on their tongue. If he has a severe case of it I guess his hands & feet could be peeling. It was something we just had to let run it's course. He said to mix a 50/50 solution of adult maalox & children's liquid benadryl to rub on the tongue if it got too irritated. But otherwise he said to just let it go. Does that sound at all familiar to his symptoms?

Dear S.,

My son, at age 4, had fever, rash and peeling hands. First came the fever, then a rash, and finally the peeling hand followed right after the fever went away. He also complained of joint pain in his knees. He was diagnosed and treated for Strep and recovered without a problem. Hope this helps.

Just a wild guess, but could it be hand-foot-mouth disease? Seems like your doc would have thought of that, but that is what it sounds like to me. Look it up on google, hand, foot, mouth disease. Very common in kids, very painful in adults if you didn't get it as a kid.
Good luck.

One theory out there is that KD is caused by certain superantigen producing bacterial strains.
This quote is from a book called Immunologic Disorders in Infants & Children: "The clinical criteria for diagnosis of KD are sufficiently nonspecific to possibly include children with other illnesses. Clinicians should take care to exclude infectious diseases, such as measles, streptococcal disease, viral infections, and toxic shock syndrome."

I don't know if any of the docters checked or if your son has been treated with antibiotics, but it could be an unresolved strept infection. Talk with MDs to do a swab if not already done. My cousins 5 year old only symptoms were that her feet were peeling, after trips to a dermatologist who had no diagnosis for it one of the docters taking care of her decided to check her for strept and it was positive, she and whole family was treated successfully with antibiotics.
