Karate for Kids Recomendations in Allen Area?

I have two older boys, ages 6 and 8, who want to take Karate for fun. I have heard of places where the kids can take classes with their parents....would love that! But can you suggest a place that is fun and good exercise without being "over the top"....we don't want serious just serious fun and confidence building. Need a place in Allen area?

What can I do next?

My friend takes her son to a Little Gym karate class. She says it's very easy going and lots of fun. I think the age range is from 4-12. She takes her son to the one on Preston in Plano but I know there is one in Allen. You might call them and see if they offer the karate class too. Hope this helps and have fun!!

Hey there!! A great place to go to is the YMCA. There is one in McKinney. If you want to do 2 days a week it is $60 for each or 1 day a week and it is $40 each. You can also apply for a scholorship and get a discount. Their number is ###-###-####. Good luck to you!!

The Allen Little Gym has relocated to McKinney by the new Wal-Mart Supercenter at Lake Forest and McKinney Ranch Parkway. My 4yo takes karate there and enjoys it a lot, but they do not offer family karate where the parents can participate.

It is offered at Lifetime fitness. You do not have to be a member to take the classes it just cost a little more if you are not a member. The classes are supposed to be pretty good.

I recommend Plano Self Defense in downtown Plano. You can all go as a family there for 1 fee. Mr Bain is fantastic with the kids. He focuses on self defense vs competition. My daughter has thrived there. www.planoselfdefense.com

There is a school in McKinney off of 380 and Custer that offers classes for Adults and Kids. On the weekends there are family classes that allow parents and kids to work out together. The instructors are awesome with kids and make the classes very enjoyable and fun for all ages. They also offer some aerobic's classes during the week. This is a school that is highly recommended by several others, and they recently have had articles written up in Prosper and McKinney papers about them. I am also hosting a "Kids night out" on July 29th to help raise money for the Susan G Komen breast cancer 3day walk in October that TKD Fit is sponsoring. (It is going to be held at the school) If you would like to participate in that you could meet the instructors then, and your kids would also have an idea of how the instructors interact with them. Hope your search goes well!
