We take our kids to Kyuki-do Martial Arts of Geneva. It's at the corner of Roosevelt Road and Kirk Road in Geneva. The owners are so nice and Mr. Koffenberger (the instructor) is very patient but also firm. My daughter is much more self confident and not to mention getting in shape!

My son is in 1st grade and he takes Illinois Shotokan Karate through the Geneva Park district. They operate in over 70 Chicagoland park districts, so check them out. You don't have to buy their GI, but having one makes the child feel more a part of it all. I bought ours online at www.karatedepot.com for less.

check your park district. My son takes lessons throught the park district with Kids Karate Club, there is also Illinois Shotakan(?) that is in some park districts. The lessons are reasonable, but they have to purchase a Qi(?) uniform. They charge you extra for tournament & belt testing....but both are optional. The karate schools are much more expensive. I told my son that if he stuck with it then we would switch. He has been doing it for 2 years and want to stay with the park district program for now. They place emphasis on confidence, safety, respect as well as the karate part.

My son goes to Karate for kids. They are located on Rt. 59 just south of 119th street. The majority of the students are children. Not too far from your house. Send me a message if you have any questions.
