I am quitting cold turkey. I unfortunately am only on my first 4 hours without a smoke and I almost feel light headed. Can anyone help me in knowing what I should expect and how long this lasts. I am excited to be done! And excited to see how much money we will save.

BTW I am doing it for me!

What can I do next?

No clue, but good luck!

It takes me a couple days to recover after giving up sugar and caffeine. And it takes me 2 weeks to actually enjoy hitting the gym. So I admire you a lot for doing something this tough.

The super intense "I WANT A DAM# CIGARETTE" cravings last a couple days. First day's the worst, by the third day I thought about smoking less than 5 times.

If you can make it through the first three days, it's downhill from there.

You'll still have moments where YOU WANT A DAM@ CIGARETTE, but if you do something to occupy your mind (find a chore you've been procrastinating or read a book), it'll pass within minutes.

Good luck!

I quit after becoming pregnant. So that made my decision sooo much easier! You CAN do this! You can can can!!!!!
But let me say if you need help, GET IT!
My husband quit w/ me but used the patch for awhile and welbutrin. Smoking is the hardest addiction to kick next to heroine. So don't be too h*** o* yourself if you need the help. But if you're determined to go cold turkey go for it! Mind over matter! Think about all the reasons you want and NEED to do this!!!!
Pretty soon you'll smell smoke on someone and not only be grossed out, but you'll realize how bad you feel for making everyone around you smell it on you! GOOD LUCK!!!!! You can do it :)

My friend quit cold turkey and she said the full withdrawl lasts about 3 days. She did say the first day was the absolute hardest. So, try to keep yourself busy today to keep your mind off of it. I am also a smoker. I've never tried to quit but there have been times where I haven't been able to smoke (for whatever reason) and I do get light headed as well. The feeling will pass.
Good luck to you!

I quit cold turkey five years ago. The first week is the hardest! Especially the first few days. After a few days, the physical withdrawal symptoms aren't as bad. Stay busy and you'll get through it. It's a great feeling to be done with it. I do still miss it sometimes, but I'm glad I stopped. Lots of luck to you!

Congratulation!!! My husband quit several years ago cold turkey. It was difficult. The reason he quit? Our son had breathing issues when he was a baby. Smoke was a big no no. I was very proud of my husband when he quit. He had quit before but had started back up. He's been smoke free for 19 years. =)

For me, it was the multiples of 3! Third day, third week, third month were really hard. Don't know why it was like this, but it was.

Good luck! I quit cold turkey many years ago, but started again after 7 years! What an idiot I am!

It takes 21 days to form a habit or to break a habit. I quit cold turkey about 12 years ago. When I craved a cigarette I either drank very cold water through a straw, ate baby carrots, or had to get up and clean something. Let me tell you, I peed a lot from all that water, my skin turned orange from the carrots, and after three weeks I had the cleanest house EVER!!! It was so worth it! Hang in there, and good luck!

I smoked a pack a day, and cigarettes are about $13 a pack here, so I've saved over $56 000!

Congratulations!! I quit 2 months ago and I am so happy. I used the patch and it worked really well. The key is to keep yourself busy and have a "replacement" such as suckers or hard candy or gum. Do anything you can to keep your mind off the fact that you are not smoking. Also, sign up for QuitNet. It will track how much money you are saving and how much time you have extended your life. It could be just the motivation you need when times get tough. I wish I could tell you that the cravings and everything will go away in a few days but honestly it doesn't. There are still times that I wish I could just sit on the back porch and smoke. But it does get easier every day and I keep reminding myself what a huge favor I am doing for my kids. Good luck!!!
