Hi I just moved to Lubbock from Las Cruces, NM. Its a big change for me and I'm having a hard time, I'm really close to my family in New Mexico and my son really misses everyone too. Has anyone gone through this recently? Do you have any ideas on how to help us adjust? Things we can do? Thanks. M.

What can I do next?

My friend just moved to Las Cruces from Lubbock, which is away from her family. It is really hard to move away.

I think if you find a support network like at church, or other moms you meet at the park will help. The Science Spectrum is fabulous and there are many nice parks in Lubbock. And maybe you and your son can find a playgroup to go to a couple days of the week.

Good luck! R.

Hey M.,

Sherril Henson is a good friend of mine and told me about you just moving to Lubbock. She has already told you about our Mommy and me group that I started up this past month, and just wanted to send you another invite. You do not have to go to Bacon Heights, it is basically just a great room with lots of toys that we dont have to clean! I hope you can make it tomorrow at 10am 53rd and Slide. We can't wait to meet you and your little boy!

Hey girls! I an 28 and I have lived in lubbock for 7 years, I have been married almost 7 years, have three sweet girls 4.5, 2.5, and 8 months old. A friend of mine started a "mom and me group" that meets at bacon heights baptist church (53rd and slide)every wed. morning at 10:00 am. They have a great big room there that we can turn our kids loose in, and they can play with all of the church toys while we moms can sit and visit. It's really nice because we can all watch our kids and be in the same room with them, as they play and make new friends! We can use all of the nursery equipment and they even set up a t.v. for the older kids if they want to watch a movie. It is so great to be able to meet and visit with other mommies and our kids get to meet and play with other kids! I would like to invite you all to come and would love to meet all of you. I have no family even close to me-- in-laws in Dallas and Fredricksburg, my family in arizona so I know what's like to feel "stuck" in Lubbock! If you would like more info, Please please please call bacon heights ###-###-####. There are lots of different backgrounds, ages, and stories of the moms that meet there and I am so sure that you would find lots in common with us. It is really great to see new faces and I really do hope you will come check it out. It is great for our kids to meet other kids and great for us mommies to use more than three word sentences! See you Wednesday! S.

I think the La Leche meetings (don't have to be nursing to go) are great to meet mothers - meetings are every third Tuesday at St. Luke's at 10:00 AM. I am a therapist, and I believe you should do something for your self each day, like drink your breakfast drink from a wine glass each morning, make sure you get out for at least one outing a day. Best park in Lubbock to have a picnic with your sweet child or husband for lunch is at the play area in the park across from Godeke(you can feed the ducks too with free bread you get right inside the door at Orlando's restaurant on Indiana and the loop). The pool to go to (closes labor day) is Sea Horse on 35th between Indiana and University. I like to go to the library story times http://library.ci.lubbock.tx.us/ with your child (click on Kids Corner on the website). http://www.lubbockfunclub.com/ is another great website to find out what to do in Lubbock.

Sounds really hard to move away from your family. I'll send up a prayer for you, and God will work it out. In the meantime, do fun things for your self and your child to cut down on depression that might creep up on you in this hard time.

My heart is wishing you a great support network of Lubbock friends,
K

Hi M.,

My name is A. S. and I am also 21 with a son that will turn 2 in October. Something that we love to do is go to the Science Spectrum. There is so much for children to do there, and my son just loves it. There is also a park that we like to go to that is close to Covenant Hospital (off of 19th and Quaker.

I go to school on Monday's and Wednesday's (starting next week), but if you want to get together to take our kids to the park, or the Science Spectrum, we would love to meet you. As you know, I am also 21 so I don't have many friends my age that have children.

Or if you ever have any other questions, I would love to help.

Hello- I moved to Lubbock 10 months ago with my two kids 11 and 9 years of age. I missed my family bad, but moved here for a job. We just got involved, found a church, went to new places and I made new friends that way. Now it feels like home. I am a single mom, and like you had a 2 yr. old at 21 as well as a 3 yr. old, so I know how it feels. Hope this helps best of luck to you- L.
