Just for Fun: Pregnancy Symptoms Even Before Testing Positive

With my first, I had very sore breasts and a missed period. With my second, about 16 days after sex, I had a strong, metallic taste in my mouth which was a dead giveaway. We are trying now for number 3 and I'm certain I was ovulating when we did the deed 14 days ago. As of this morning, the pregnancy test was negative but I'm still hoping my HCG levels are just slow to rise and I'll get a positive in a few days. My period is expected on Friday, so I guess if it comes, there's my answer. Since I'm in my upper 30's, we're hoping
for it to happen sooner rather than later. So, did you have any pregnancy signs even before you tested positive? !

What can I do next?

I am very sensitive to changes in my body. I had tingling in my breasts within days of conception and that metallic taste. I also "just knew." Couldn't tell you why. I just did. I've only been pregnant twice, and both times I knew long before I could test.

By the way, I also "just knew" the gender of both babies. I was right both times. Not very scientific or statistically valid, but I "just knew."

I slept on my stomach and one night when I went to bed and going to lay on my stomach like normal, there were sharp, unbearable pains. When I got off my stomach the pains went away, but everytime I would lay on my stomach they would come back. This was before I took a test.

I had the metallic taste in my mouth, when I drank water from home (we had a salt water softener)... only when I was pregnant.

I also was able to taste caffeine. I did not enjoy chocolate during pregnancy.

A week before my period was due I had strong cravings for tuna fish. I knew then. (This was my 3rd child)

With my first, I did not have any signs but lost the baby at 4 weeks 5 days.

With my second, I knew on the first day of my missed period because I tested positive. I had horrible burps (but this was the entire first trimester).

3rd time around - same thing, I knew on the first day of my missed period but did not have any symptoms before.

4th (and current) pregnancy - I FELT like I was pregnant but the test was negative. Seven days later, I tested again and it was positive. This time around, the night before I tested, I was so tired, I thought I was getting sick!!!

Missed my period, and just had a generalized sense of "fullness" in my abdomen, like there was something there that wasn't there before - turned out I was right! :)

I had an increased sense of smell especially for beer and soda. I couldn't stand the smell of either one.

I felt NOTHING for the longest time.
We did IVF and the blood test 19 days after embryo transfer said we were pregnant.
I was so happy because I was convinced it hadn't worked.
(I guess my roller coaster emotions should have been a clue but you get that just from the hormone shots anyway so it wasn't a reliable sign.)
Even then - I was cautiously optimistic because I STILL felt nothing.
I finally truly believed we were pregnant after I could hear the heartbeat.

My first sign with all 3 kiddo was that I suddenly hated the smell or taste of coffee. I usually love to have my morning coffee. With my third I woke up one morning (before my period was due) and did not crave it and thought, I'm pregnant!! I could not stand coffee during pregnancy and then each time the day after delivery I was like get me some coffee!!

With my first, I didn't notice any early symptoms other than frequent urination.

With my second and third, I felt a pulling sensation in my stomach when I would go from sitting to standing, or even if I was just laughing. The other symptom was, my urine was a weird neon yellowish color. That was new to me with the second so I didn't know it was a symptom until after I found out I was pregnant and Googled it. That was how I first realized I was pregnant with #3, I had the neon yellow pee again, and that pulling sensation. I went out and got a First Response since my period wasn't even due yet and I was indeed pregnant.

With my fourth pregnancy which ended in an early miscarriage , I had the pulling sensation and very sore breasts so I took an early test and it was positive. Other than that, and just a tad of queasiness, I didn't have many symptoms. I wondered why I wasn't getting up to pee every hour in the night like I'd done with the others. I felt like something was wrong the entire time until I went to the OB and had my fears confirmed.

With my first pregnancy, I told the nurse to call me when they knew it was a false reading. I was going thourhg infertility treatments. Then when I was having ultrasounds and just seeing little white spots, I asked the tech when they would go away and they would know I was not. I had no signs whatsoever. It took until I was 8 weeks or so to believe them. Then with my daughter, I was just so stinkin tired. But had gone through really stressful times over the previous few years so figured it was my body telling me to relax. Otherwise, nothing with the exception that a piece of usually awesome german chocolate had no taste what so ever. I thought I had gotten a stale stash. With my last, nothing again.

Sore breasts, yes, but that's so usual. The shocker to me was falling asleep in the bathtub when I was washing, KNEELING in the tub! I was in a hotel room and dashed in to freshen up before a dinner. I had 15 minutes to wash and change, and I spent 5 of it in the tub. How does one actually fall asleep like that?

I went to dinner, had an amaretto sour, and then spent 10 minutes in the bathroom feeling like my stomach had a large stone in it.

It wasn't long after I returned home from my trip that I started to suspect that I was pregnant. I went to the doctor for a pregnancy test, and I was. I had been trying for 4 months. All of a sudden the strange tub sleeping and the tummy ache made sense. (And no more amaretto sours for a long time!)

Hope you get your positive!

Both times:
- Strong metallic taste that only went away when eating citrus
- Sound asleep by 8:00 pm
- Freezing cold... in the summer heat!

Good luck!

About a week (yes, one WEEK) after conception I ate lunch and then vomited it up in the parking lot. My husband teased me about being pregnant (we were trying) and I said, 'There's no way I'd be sick this soon." Boy was I wrong! My "morning sickness" lasted into my second trimester, I LOST weight while pregnant but still had a healthy 8 pound baby!

And that's why I only had one ;)

No early signs for me, well if I did I completely missed them. With my last 3 there was always something else going on so I did not catch on to the fact that I missed my period.

When I was pregnant with #6, my 5th son had 2nd and 3rd degree burns from a camp stove accident. My sister is the one who made me stop and think about being pregnant when she announced she was. It got me thinking. I was almost 3 months along when I caught on.

With #7, I was dealing with my oldest sons's mental issues that popped up out of nowhere. I didn't catch on till I started puking and for me that is always after the first trimester. I do it a little backwards.

with #8 I was dealing with a VERY rebellious DD, and again didn't catch on till the puking started. It was actually that DD who caught on cause I thought I had a stomach bug or stress stomach since stress effects my stomach.
