Just Bought a New Couch, What Do You Know About Microfiber?

I've NEVERRR bought a brand new couch... and now I have. It's the biggest thing I've ever purchased in my entire life (excluding P.O.S. second, third, fourth hand cars)... SUPER excited about it. No hard edges, low to the ground, relatively child-friendly I thought. The sales lady reassured me that the whole thing comes scotch-guarded, and sent me home with a furniture care kit as well. I bought the $89 5 year warranty IN CASE anything happens (and it will, having 3 kids)... I guess my question is, a sales person is SUPPOSED to fill you with warm and fuzzy feelings to seal the deal... is microfiber truly that easy to clean and maintain?

What can I do next?

I love it. What sold me on microfiber was when my daughter spit up all over my grandpa's couch....and it just wiped off!

I must say I have a set I loved it when I seen it sat on it choose the color of it & now have it still love it although you see every finger print on it from the kids when they still have their hands wet from washing them or fingers in their mouth then onto the couch...It doesn't keep as clean as I so thought we did pay the extra $ to get it guarded so well so good there hasn't been major spills on it oops take that back my 3 yr old at the time she was younger fell asleep with grandma watching her & she peed on the couch cleaned up well with soap & water..If you do clean it they told me to use a blow dryer on it that doesn't work however a fan does have cleaned it several times with just plain water then allowed the fan to dry it better than air dry because it doesn't leave the water marks...
Folow the rules no food or drink on the couch & you'll be ok...At least that's my rule hate it when things get spilled on anything other than the kitchen floor :)

yes it is! I love ours, it is easy to clean up and we got the warranty too, but haven't needed it. The only thing I can't seem to get off of it is my husband!

We have had two. The first one we hated after the first month. I was sold on the microfiber because it was supposed to be so easy to clean. We paid for the extra protection (which really only covers things that humans eat). That couch looked so dirty all the time. No matter what I did, and yes it was scotch guarded. That thing looked years old after just a month. And I was assured that our house of two children and a large dog it would hold up well. So we sold it on craigslist (for almost what we paid for it) about nine months later. I swore I would NEVER again own microfiber. When we went shopping again, the couch we loved ONLY came in microfiber. There were lots of color choices, but only microfiber fabric. When I told the sales person why I hated microfiber, she showed me the store guarantee. If I hated it I could return it. She showed me how the covers came off and could be washed in the washing machine. She also told me tricks of the trade...like baby wipes are great for getting small spots off microfiber. I reluctantly agreed to the purchase. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this couch! It's really easy to clean. Usually just a damp cloth. It's comfy and looks great. I can't imagine any other sofa in our house!

We bought ours about 3 years ago, and we love it... everyone says it is the most comfortable couch. We never used the kit they sold us at the store. Now that the warranty is up, we have used our carpet steam cleaner on it a few times.. my little pups seem to like licking their paws on the sofa, and it leaves little water marks where they have been, so other than spot cleaning, we have only had to steam clean it twice in 3 years.
Not too bad.. the only problem we have with it, is that the cushions seems to be flattening out already, we constantly have to fluff the huge back pillows, and the bottom cushions... a small price to pay for such a big comfy sofa!

ENJOY!!!

Congratulations! Make sure no one cuts the tags off because the company might hassle you over warranty work if you do. Of course, the sales tags can be removed. Smart on buying the warranty.

It does hold up well. However, know you warrranty. Don't use the steam vac no matter hot tempted. And no food and drinks on it.
Other than cushsion being slighty worn in our favorites spots, the fabric on mine looks great three years later. The kids know the rules, I think I have been the only one to spill.

It is. BUT, my 3 year old spilled nail polish all over our couch about 6 months after we bought it (he was about 18 months) and it was NOT covered under the warranty. So much for the extra money. It was also the first big piece of furniture we had purchased new (aside from beds) and the biggest purchase for our new home. Wow. So just make sure you read exactly what is covered and the timeline you have to report it in. Ours was something like 24-78 hours to report an incident.

My family owns a furniture store. The microfiber is GREAT for kids. The saleswoman told you the truth.

Now, please read this carefully--you will void out the warranty if you clean this upholstery on your own. The company cannot be responsible for the items you use on it personally. If the fabric gets beyond the spot-care that care kit will clean, please call the store you purchased from and tell them you need a professional cleaning and why. They will direct you to an approved cleaner that will not void your warranty. Anything that you do at home w/ a general carpet/upholstery steam cleaner will void the warranty and your money will be wasted. Congratulations on your purchase!

LOVE it! Microfiber is truly a gift to the modern Mommy. We have a 4 year old, but even worse than that is a 125lb labrador mix and they are tough on furniture. I have spilled an entire pan of hamburger helper on the couch, it has been thrown up on, slobbered on, colored on with washable marker, had milk, juice, and coffee spilled on it, and it still looks as new today as it did 6 years ago when we bought it. I put a little bit of dish soap into warm water, take a white hand towel, and just wipe it down periodically. When it dries, it looks good as new. We also vacuum it weekly to keep the nap from getting worn. Ours is a deep blue, which may be one of the reasons it never looks stained... I wasn't brave enough to go with a neutral color because of the overgrown black dog that runs our household.

I hope you love your couch as much as I love mine. You made a good investment!

you can wipe it with a wet wash cloth and get stuff out but it usually leaves a ring. if you can get the covers off the cushons stick them in the wash once or twice a year and wash them in the wash and they come out looking brand new. we put them in the dryer too.

We love ours! I use water immediately on any stains and if that doesn't work, I use a CLEAR dishwashing liquid (like environmentally Method, or something like that w/out colorants/fragrance, etc.) I don't really think scotch guard is needed on micro-fiber.

We loved our microfiber couch, but I later discovered I had a dust mite allergy and had to get rid of it. Just something to keep in mind if there are kids in the house who might have allergies. Leather (or vinyl!) is the only thing to do for dust mites I guess.

Our microfiber couch and chair are a mess because of the kids. The carpet cleaner steam cleaned it a few years ago and made it look almost new. He said that microfiber was the easiest to clean.

Microfiber is awesome. Just a wet rag will take out lipstick, ink, and markers (those are what my son decided to write on our new chair with 2 days after it was delivered. If plain water doesn't work I use a bit of dish soap and so far that's taken out everything.

Yes. I use baby wipes(while the stain is fresh) and the spot usually comes right out. I have 3 children, and stuff gets spilled on my furniture all the time, so it's nice that these are so easy to clean. The only thing that I don't like about it is that after 4 years of having this furniture, it has "worn" spots. I guess you're probably gonna get that with every kind of furniture, but it just seems to show up more with the microfiber, in my experience. Next time we buy new furniture, we're going with leather. :D

My microfiber couch is VERY easy to clean. Just water and a paper towel or white cloth, and the spot is gone. Of course, it helps to clean up as soon as you notice the spot. I'm not sure how long you can let a spot or stain go, but most of mine have come up well with water or a little soap and water.
