I want to go to Mexico this weekend but i am debating taking my almost 5 month old son. It is very hot and my grandmothers house does not have a.c.!!! There is a beatiful breeze especially at night but im scared to take my lil one, my question is-is there anything i can give him to drink to keep him cool and hydrated? (other than his formula)i know your suppose to wait on the juice???

What can I do next?

Water! But in Mexico, make sure it's bottled water you give him. And I agree, check with your doctor about how much is too much. Watch his diapers to make sure they're wet enough. And my advice is to stick with water and avoid juice for a long time. Learned that lesson from my first child - I gave him diluted juice first and he was 3 before I could get him to drink straight water.

I would just give water and formula. Juice isn't really that good for them, and all the sugar will only make him more thirsty. Have fun!

His formula and an ounce or two of water a day will be sufficient to keep him healthy and happy. Keep him shaded and loosely dressed (undressed). There is no reason to give juice at this age. Honestly, you are probably more concerned about the heat than you really need to be.

Offer him smaller amounts of formula more often through the day to ensure that he is properly hydrated, and as mentioned previously, watch for his wet diapers.

If your grandmother is anything like my suegra y abuelita they will insist that he needs socks and a blanket anyway!

Water, but be careful. It is very easy to overload a baby's kidneys. Check with your pediatrician.

I would just stick with water, but you probably only need a couple of ounces in a day (you can make a baby VERY sick by giving them too much water). I didn't give my daughter juice until she was about 19 months old and the only reason I did then was because my Mom was watching her while my hubby and I went on a vacation and she gave her juice because I didn't think to tell her that she didn't get juice. Until then, she drank milk and water. Juice isn't very good for babies (or adults), there is a ton of sugar in it. My daughter is 2 1/2 now and I still water her juice down.
