We have moved twice in the last 2 years... first from Idaho to Texas, then from Texas to Tennessee. Both were pretty long drives. lol. To keep ourselves entertained, my fiance and I played the numbers game, and car bingo. The number game is that you have to find the next sequential number on bilboards, license plates, trucks, whatever you find as long as it is outside the vehicle you are in. 1-9 is easy... but once you get into the 2 digit numbers its hard to find sequential numbers. Driving from Idaho to Texas, we only got up to 83, working together. We also play Bingo... Yellow car is 'bingo', worth one point. Orange car is 'yahtzee', worth two points. The elusive yellow AND orange car is a 'scrabble' and worth 3 points. lol. This one is fun to play just driving around town. I will have someone else in the car, and randomly burst out with 'BINGO!' and get a wth look from them. ONce I explain the game to them they usually play with me. What road games do you play, if any? :)

What can I do next?

One game we play on long trips is see how many state license plates you see. That one takes the entire trip, and you need to write them down to remember.

The one my son and I play is a phrase from the letters on a license plate. For instance 23FLZ19 - you would take the "FLZ" and make a phrase. "Freakishly lazy zebra". It gets sillier and sillier. We usually have the rule that X's are wild cards, too.

My grandson adores playing "Fortunately, Unfortunately." We choose a side, then start trading turns telling a story, with the unfortunates adding to the plot by trying to do in the protagonist, the fortunates trying to deal with all the dreadful circumstances.

Little R. Riding Hood was taking a walk through the forest. Unfortunately, a very hungry bear tried to catch her. Fortunately, there was a tree, and she knew how to climb. Unfortunately, the tree was thin and the bear could make it lean down to the ground. Fortunately, ….

We have always played a lot of... that one game...you know where you say the person's name? (Hee-Hee...I don't know if it has a name?)

I say: Mickey Rourke
Last name starts with a 'R'...
so you say:.....Ringo Star
I say: Shell Silverstien (sp?)
It could be anyone in history including authors, artists, celebrities and athletes, etc, etc...
When you duplicate a name or cant think of a name with the coordinating letter you are out...we play it as a fast pace game!

~When hubby and I travel alone we are more the Scary books on tape kind of people :)

I love Twenty Questions... my only caveat is I really need other players to know something about the subjects they choose. Otherwise, it's just annoying. ("Does the animal live on the continent of Africa?" ..."uh, I don't know" Yikes!)

Mad Libs is also good to take along, too.

My husband and I make a list of all the different state license plates we see and see how many we can get. Not terribly exciting, lol, but we like it.

It's been a little while since Ive played games like that lol
When I was little we used to play the Sign Alphabet game, kinda like the number one you described only A - Z.
My old friend and I took a couple road trips, when we did we used to look at a car and try and guess the age, sex, race, etc of the person driving said car.
Kinda a weird game, but it was all in fun and actually had some funny results.

Well when the kids were little (and me too)we played (sang) the alphabet game/song

A My name is Abby, my husband's name is Art
We live in Alabama and we sell Apples

B My name is Barbara, my husband's name is Bill.
We live in Billings and we sell balloons, etc

Now they're teenagers and we just make up funny things license plates stand for.

We play the Name Game!! It's just like what InMy30'SAlready?! described, except if you have a double letter (Shel Silverstein), the turns go in reverse until someone can't think of a double (for 3 or more people). And, the majority of the group must know the name, to prevent cheating :) Good for hours of fun!

As a kid (because dh refuses to play games and dd is too young), I always liked the "Going on a Trip" "Going to the Store" "Going to the Zoo" etc game.
First person says: "I'm going to the store to pick up apples" Next person says: "I'm going to the store to pick up apples and bread." Next person: "I'm going to the store to pick up apples, bread, and cauliflower."

These can be done by alphabet or just whatever. On and on until: Somebody forgets one of the items or can't think of a word for the next letter. Same concept for "I went to the zoo and saw an alligator, bird, cheetah..." or "I'm going on a trip and packing my socks, flip-flops, sunglasses..."

OMG, I play with my older daughter to I spy a Yellow car too! and I thought I invented the game, lol.
Only that in our case, the game last for about a month and I lose horrible, something like 6 against 30, but it was no fair because I was driving and needed to put attention, lol.
The other game we play is talk without a common later like "s", we love that game, we just talk and try to ask question to the other so they say the later.
And also we play "Basta" (but only when husband drives), we take some paper and divide it into sections with:
Name, Food, Animal, Thing, and can be what ever you want, state or city, Spanish word or what ever you think your kids can do.
Then one of us start thinking the ABC's and the other decide when to stop saying "Basta", what ever is the letter that the person says is what we have to find words that start with that letter for each of the sections.
When somebody finish says "Basta" and all stop writing, and you repeat as many times you want, 5, 10, etc. wins who get more points, each word is a point.
Another similar but you don't need to write is to pick a letter and take turns saying all the animals or food or whatever that start with that letter, if you can't think in nothing in 5 sec. you are out.
Hope you have fun.

We just love license plates! Try to find one from each state and with all the different types within states now, you can try to see how many of those you can find!
