We were visiting my parents and as I was shivering, realized she keeps her house at 64 degrees! Her basement was a meat locker! I typically keep mine around 71-72. It made me wonder what other people do? So what temp do you keep your house at?
Last winter, and every winter in the past several years, I've kept my house at 68'. I recently lost a lot of weight, and ever since, I've been cold--now my house is at 72'.
I can finally understand why my MIL would sneak upstairs and raise the thermostat when they were visiting-she's tiny with very little fat insulating her ;-)

At about 68. I like it a little bit cooler...and we just put on a fleece/sweater if we are cold. One of our friends in Alaska (when we used to live there) always kept their house really cold to save money. Right at 64. I would bring over my fleece slippers, wear long johns, layers, and a fleece jacket in their house when we went over for dinner!

We have it set for 70 during the day and 68 at night. The problem is that could mean quite a few temperatures all over the house. It gets the hottest in the master bedroom but the other 2 bedrooms upstairs don't get nearly as hot. The thermostat is not in the best place for the rest of the house.
We've been trying to fiddle with it for the nighttime temperature. It can get really cold here at night while still being warm during the day.

Mom,
This question has been asked a lot!! I am surprised at the differences in temperatures...
We live in the Mid-Atlantic region - DC - in the winter it's usually set at 62 degrees..we wear sweaters or sweat jackets and slippers...in the summer? 76.
I'm sure that if we lived in Minnesota or Upstate New York - we'd have it set higher...does this mean it's ALWAYS at 62? Nope. When we ALL get chilled - we turn it up to 68.

We keep ours at a comfortable level. We refuse to be uncomfortable in our own home.
In the winter, it is usually between 72-75 and in the summer with the TX heat, it is kept so we are comfortable... about 72.
We have gas heat and electric air. My highest gas bill is usually around $400 because we do love to use the gas fireplace. My highest electric bill was $700 before we redid all of the ac system which has 2 units, 2 furnaces, ducts and more insulation and since we did that it has never been over $400. We did pay over $20,000 for the upgrade in the system but it was worth it to us.

Depends on what it costs.
When I had gas... It was only about $45 a month to keep my home at 80-85.
So that's what I did (and I prefer)
With oil... It's over $800 a month to keep my house at 80.
Which I couldn't afford.
$400 to keep my house at the high 60s... So Thats what I did.
Now... I just have space heaters.
So the price is the same (abo $150 per month), but my house fluctuates between high 60's and high 80's depending on the weather outside.
Under. Armour.
(My parents keep, their house in the 60s, paying over 700 a month to do that. I used to complain. Before I realized what it cost them to heat the place.)

It really surprises me that an older person would set their home at 64. All the older people I know get cold easily.

During winter I try to keep it between 65-67, when it gets into 70 I get really hot, plus, I rather wear a sweatshirt than be hot.
As for summer, I keep it around 75-78 and may go as low as 73.
I also try not to got too hot or too cold to save on my gas/electric bills.

I refuse to get up and sit on a cold toilet. To me that's just silly. Why be cold at night? I'd much rather be comfortable while sleeping than add blanket after blanket. Then get too hot and toss them off only to get cold and seek them out again. That's just too much interrupting my sleep. So we keep the house comfortable at night.
During the day I can put on some snugly house shoes and a long sleeved top. I don't need to wear a sweater of course but I don't want to run around in a tank top either.
We have always done this and it works for us. We don't have the colds and stuff a lot of people have either. We don't get all dried out and we don't get so cold our bodies can't do their proper work either.

About 67°. The thermostat is in the living room, which has three large windows. It is usually the coldest room in the winter. If we turn it up higher, the other upstairs rooms get uncomfortably warm. I'd rather it be a little cool and wear snuggly clothing than to be too hot.

We are moving to a 2 level house next week and it has brand new windows in the house so it will hopefully be a little more even with the temp. We have 4 levels now and original 30 year old windows in this place.

60-65 in the winter during the day, shut it off at night, everybody here sleeps hot.
70-75 in the summer.
It's weird someone would be "shivering" while it's 64 degrees outside. That's shirtsleeve weather.
:)
I should mention, that when I have guests I tend to keep it warmer, since guests are generally not flying around doing stuff all day like those of us who live here.

In the winter it depends on how cold it is outside. If it is 20 or lower than the heat is set at 69. Warmer than 20 and we are comfortable with it at 67. I don't know why that makes such a big difference.
Summer is 74 day and 71 at night.

We have a corn stove and very poor insulation in the house. We have our thermostat set at 73 and right now, in MN with the windchill, it feels fairly comfortable. I have no clue how to adjust how much heat the stove puts out, so sometimes, in the winter, if it's nice out, it'll get in the upper 70s! 73 seems pretty comfortable here! When I moved into my husband's house, he had it set at 68, and that was with NO insulation in the house...no wonder I walked around fully dressed, socks, t-shirt, sweatshirt and a blanket!
In the summer, it's at 75 usually. I'd prefer it cooler, but any cooler then that, and my hubby will complain that it's too cold in the house! Then again, he's working out in the heat all day! :) I hope you finally warmed up!

72 during the day and 68 at night. We all sleep better when it's a bit colder and we can snuggle up under the covers. But during the day, we prefer it at 72. Strangely, 71 is too cold and 73 is too warm. Amazing that we can tell a difference of a couple of degrees, right? But time and again, 72 proves to be the perfect daytime indoor temp for us.

We keep the house about 74 during the day and night. But the thermostat is set to go on when the temp does drop. The summer is around 72 depending on how hot it is during the day.
My gas bill in the winter runs about $80 a month. The electric is about $140 for the summer again depending on the temp outside.
The house is comfortable but the thermostat is in a hallway because of the fireplace in the living room. I do have a fleece blanket in the living room as the temp does drop and I get cold.

Well 70-72 in the winter, but it has been soo cold negative windchills, there have been days that the boiler system will not keep up and it has been 65. Right now it is nice out (50 yesterday) and it is 75 in here way too warm, but it is set at 70. We have had isuuses with the boiler system so it has varried a lot this winter. Usually 70-72 is what we like and it is even temp.
Summer about 75 but we have window ac units, so it does not hold a constant temp.
