JFF: What Eye Makeup Remover Do You Use?

Hi Moms,

I have the MAC one and don't like it at all!!!! It's greasy and doesn't work well... I almost hate putting eye makeup on because it stays on my eyes for 2-3 days... I pretty much use clear mascara because black takes FOREVER to come off.... What do you use? Is it greasy? Does it irritate your eyes?

What can I do next?

Avon! They make a really nice non-greasy, non-irritating works great eye makeup remover. Give it a try, they guarantee it and it's not that expensive.

I like the Mary Kay remover...works like magic, super fast and easy. I just use a cotton ball and the solution....then I usually wipe a towel over my eyes to get what little "greasy" feeling is left and I'm done. HIGHLY reccomend!

I buy the Extra Emollient Cleansing Creme from Mary Kay. It is a special order and a lot of the new ladies don't think they make it anymore but I get it all the time from my representative. It is thick out of the tube but melts instantly. I rub it on and it dissolves the mascara, I use lots of brands and have no issues. I wipe it off with a warm wash cloth then wash my face with soap, Dove, in the shower. I love how soft and supple my skin is round my eyes too.

Love love love my Mary Kay eye makeup remover. It works extremely well and is totally non irritating. I also used to use it to remove stubborn diaper rash cream and have used it on temporary tattoos and other hard to remove things.

I use baby oil or petroleum jelly. I rub it between my hands and use my fingers to rub my eyes (mascara and liner). It comes off very easily and quickly. The baby oil is my preference because it's a cleaner clean, not greasy, and it doesn't leave film in the basin. After rubbing with the baby oil, I just wipe it with a warm towel.

I use my St. Ives facial cleanser for my entire face--no need for a separate eye make up remover here!

LOVE the Target brand make up wipes... it's cheap, and yes, it takes off black mascara (and I've been known to wear a LOT)... I'm super allergic to everything skin related, but not these! It's not greasy either... Once I'm done taking my makeup off with the makeup wipe, I use a regular baby wipe to finish the job (not sure why, I just feel cleaner once I do that, LOL!!) 1 pack of 50 wipes is (I think) $3, and you only need 1 per removal, so one $3 pack lasts more than a month!

I love the DHC Cleansing oil-but I only use it for eye makeup it works beautifully and really will remove tough eye makeup-if you are looking for a cheaper alternative try Jojoba oil (found in vitamin stores) or even use a baby wipe-they are really effective!

Mary Kay - as long as you shake it well before you use it to mix the liquids first. Before that I used L"Oreal (Blue Bottle, clear liquid) got it at WalMart.

I don't use any at all. I use Clean and Clear face wash for sensitive skin and just gently wash my eye area with it and rinse well.

I don't use waterproof mascara because it breaks my eyelashes, so just soap and water to remove my eye makeup is perfect.

I use Philosophy's Purity face wash. It is wonderful, it lasts a long time, gets all the dirt and stuff out of your pores and makeup off. Its all natural too, and has a nice clean scent to it. I absolutely love it. Pretty sure i'll never use anything else.

I don't often wear eye make up any longer (the last year or so), but before that I was eyeliner, waterproof mascara and eyeshadow. I have only ever used vaseline and a corner of a towel with hot water on it, and rub carefully and pat dry. Always works!

I buy these big packs of 25 or 30 white terry towels at Sams Club that are designated as face towels and hand towels here. We must have about 200 of them now.

AACCKK!! As a Clinique consultant for 15 years, some of these answers are making me cringe!!
An eye make up remover lotion should not be greasy. Most liquid removers are. So I would stick with a lotion made for eye makeup removal. Safe for the eye area. Vaseline can clog pores and ducts. Baby oil too. Clinique is all allergy tested and fragrance free. I like our Naturally Gentle Eye Makeup Remover (its a lotion that removes even waterproof mascara), but have also used ones from Almay and Neutrogena in a pinch that worked fine.

Body Shop's chamomile eye make-up remover. Works like a dream! I was a volunteer last weekend at our local zoo's Halloween event. I had to dress like a zombie and it not only removed my mascara but it removed the costume make-up coating my eyes. It isn't greasy and it doesn't irritate my eyes or skin at all. I even used it on my daughter and she was fine, too. It costs about $12 but the bottle is large and it is worth every single penny. Sometimes The Body Shop offers samples of items you may want to buy if you ask the associate. Good luck! I searched for an eye makeup remover forever before I found this one!

I use the MAC gently off eye and lip makeup remover and their wipes. Their wipes works wonderfully and the other remover can be greasy. I usually use the remover first, then wash with their cremewash (my face feels squeaky clean after that) and finally use the wipes for anything that is left over. It works well for me.

i use the face wash "you clean up nice" from benefit. it's all in one and it's great for moms who refuse to give up 2 extra minutes anywhere, including removing makeup :)

i use aveda pure comfort makeup remover for the tough mascaras and things if i have to, it gently but cuts through water proof makeup well.

Avon - it's great and not greasy at all. You can find it online and it usually is on special for under $3. I buy in bulk. :)

My favorite is Arcona 3:1 face pads in cranberry. Removes makeup, cleans, and tones your skin all in one. And smells like cranberry. I just squeeze each pad before I use it to remove the extra liquid, and when I've used up all the pads, I still have a centemeter of pink pearlescent liquid in the jar. I use up all the pads in a month, and then for the next SIX months, I just dip q-tips in the liquid to remove my eye makeup.

It's not cheap, at least not initially, the pack I get (3:1 pads, magic white ice moisturizer, and cranberry gromage face scrubber/exfoliator stuff) is about $75 dollars. I only get it once a year on my birthday.

I've switched to/ use for the other six months Neutrogenia dimorphous liquid in a blue bottle. It works super easy, and is dirt cheap at $8, and lasts for 6mo but it's lotion-y feeling after wiping it off. AKA kinda oily, even though the liquid in the bottle is anything but oily. It doesn't work as well as the Arcona, either, but it only takes two swipes to get off my black mascara and espresso eyeliner.

Rimmel brand makes the BEST one. Not greasy at all, doesnt burn or anything, it feels like your putting water on your eyes, and it takes the eye makeup off easy peasy! I love it and have been using it for years! It used to be really cheap, but apparently supply and demand has driven it up a bit over the years. Still the best and Im sure a lot cheaper than MAC's.
