JFF - What Do You Do With.....

It was my son's last soccer game of the season today and I am wondering, what do you do with sports uniforms and team banners after the season is over?

What can I do next?

I give them to my mom to make a blue jean quilt with.

We have all sorts of blankets - I have my concert shirts from my teens and twenty's - I didn't want to part with them...so she sewed them together and made me a quilt.

I give her the shirts and such - when she has enough she makes a quilt. The boys get to keep their shirts and the memories and we get something useful out of it!

My son keeps wearing his jerseys until they begin to show a little wear. Then I put them away to become either a t-shirt quilt or a shadowbox collage later.

I saved all of my sons' sports, school, & travel tshirts. During the World Series, my 24yo son cut up his shirts (mostly from H.S.) into quilt blocks. My Mom was staying with us, & together they laid out his quilt. She is making it for Christmas for him.

I am still working on cutting out my younger son's quilt blocks. His shirts are from toddler thru to H.S......so he'll end up with 2 quilts eventually. Also he was more actively involved in sports & Scouts than my older son. A much bigger stash to work with!

My daughter is a cheerleader.

When middle school cheer was over, I packed all of her cheer clothes, etc in the cheer bag and put it away.

When High School (grades 9-10) was over, I did the same thing. In HS, the 10th graders get to keep 1 designated uniform. They have 5 uniforms that are "school property" and used yearly and 1 of them is designated to be the keepsake for the older grade.

Same with Sr. High (11-12), she is currently in 11th grade, all uniforms will go back to the school and re-issued to the new squad in April after tryouts. She has about 8 uniforms now and a large bag. When she is done with Sr., year, I'll do the same and keep the designated uniform that is the keepsake and all other clothes in the the bag and put away. The megaphone will have to fit somewhere else because right now, it will fit in the bag when she goes to games but not if the bag is full of clothing!

The Sr high has a LOT more clothes, jackets, etc and a lot of the things can be worn afterwards such as the yoga pants, sewat pants, jackets, t-shirts, shorts, etc. I'll just put the things I know she will not wear/use in the bag for storage.

I have a friend who makes quilts. this year she made a quilt which was auctioned off at the middle school. I had squares made from tshirts that the school had had over the past 9 years. It is a catholic school so kids go K-8 it was a huge hit. I am mentioning it as you could possibly make your child a quilt out of all those old soccer / football etc shirts

A church in our area collects soccer uniforms, balls, cleats, ect. to send to children in Africa. You could contact your local soccer program (ours is AYSO and they work with this church to do the collection twice a year on a game day) see if they do any recycling or donations.

My daughter keeps them like a pack rat!!! They were all so special (softball, dance, figure skating) and I have talked her into putting them in a tub for the garage.
