I was just telling my hubby that I would like to start collecting something, but I'm not sure what. I have been collecting shot glasses(I know, kind of funny) since my freshman year of college and I have quite the big and nice collection. I know it has to be something that I'm interested in, I just haven't come up with anything yet! So I thought I would ask you mamas what you collect!

Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

Pet hair, dust and preschool art projects ;-)

Seriously, my husband gives me a unique, handmade Santa every year for my Santa collection that I love, and I'm a total bibliophile and love my book collection.

I am minimalist and I hate clutter so I don't collect anything. My hubby is a pack rat and keeps everything. Drives me nuts. He collects books, specifically JRR Tolkien books. I love and admire other people's collections though. My Aunt collects porcelain shoes (small ones like a couple of inches tall). When I was little I just loved looking at all her shoes. She still has them and I still love seeing them sprinkled around her house.

Hi K.-

I started a 'shadow box' (actually an old type setters drawer that I refinished)...and every place I visited, I got some small memento that would fit in a 'space'...

I now have a 'world wide' collection of small (miniature) items that remind me of the places I have been!

I have my original shadow box in my dining room hanging on the wall...I have another one I am working on...

Hoping to live long enough for a few more!

Best Luck!

fur bunnies (like dust bunnies, only they fall off the dog and crawl under my furniture and hang out along the baseboards).

Actually, I "collect" a Christmas ornament from every place we visit for the first time. Makes our Christmas tree more like a memory tree. :)

My husband and I collect magnets. Every time we go somewhere new we get a new one for our fridge. It reminds us of all the good trips and things we've done together. We also do the photo Booth pictures whenever we go somewhere new too and take goofy photos. Its fun to look back on them.

Nothing....but memories.

Why do you want to collect things?

I do have way too many teapots...the majority have been given as gifts. I'm sure I have over 30 of them...but I don't consider myself a collector of anything....maybe books are a close second.

Forgeries (ideally signed by the forger when I can arrange it)

Books

My favorite clothes of my son's (I plan on making a memory quilt when he moves out).

Pictures of the ground I've walked on (that I take)... might sound weird, but everywhere does streets and sidewalks differently. I'm a clutz, so I'm always watching where I put my feet, and it's something I've noticed over the years. Plus the lighting and weather is different all over the world, so the variation is pretty phenomenal.

Special Ornaments (we get new ornaments to sum up, or highly part of the year past) every xmas

I guess I collect books, though I wouldn't say "I have a book collection." I just buy them, read them, and have them.

Other than that, I guess I have an Christmas ornament collection and a dust bunny collection.

I have quite a collection of precious moments. I used to get them as gifts as a little girl. In Cathrage MO (sp?) the Precious Moments Chapel is there and I have been there several times, so it's even more special to me. My Grandma lives by there and so I will always have that memory of her along with my Precious Moments.

I love Michele's idea of a shadow box!!! I might have to steal it!!! :-)

I collect a keychain from every place I visit. For my son, we are collecting the little bicycle license plates with his name. My grandparents had the best collection. They would collect an interesting rock from all the new places they visited. They would write the date and place on it. They had an RV and had been all over the US and Canada, so they had a ton of them! So many that they couldn't be kept when they sold their home and moved into assisted living. Too bad, because I would have loved to have kept them!

Over the years it's been different things..clowns & the collection became quite large. Then it was snowmen, santas, and now I'm collecting the Boxcar Children books, which were my favorite mystery type books when I was a child. Once you get the word out of what you want to collect everyone starts giving it to you for birthdays, Christmas, etc. Oh yeah...I went through a faze of collecting Elvis stuff too!!

I no longer collect anything, because I just can't afford it. However, I do have about 3000 comic books stored in my closet...and that's a nice collection. :) I love comics. Probably 2800 of them are Archie comics. Fun to collect BECAUSE you get use out of them...it's something to read. :)

I guess you could say I collect books in general...still do, to an extent.

Cards. I have kept mine since my own birth announcement ones. My mother had a bunch from my baby book, and I just kept keeping them. I have one from every birthday I have ever had. I started this with my son. To me, seeing ones from my great-grandparents, and friends and loved ones who have passed away are such treasures. Also letters from family or friends. I never toss them away. I keep them in a box.

I also collect old books, cat figurines, and perfume bottles. My grandmother actually started the perfume bottles. I have 21 from her( she passed away after my 21st birthday). So I just keep on collecting. The more unique the better.

I also have a collection of barn pictures that I have taken, as well as old mills and factory buildings. For some reason they fascinate me.

It's something to do, and something to keep busy with. Enjoy!

When you look at decorating magazines or catalogs, is there one particular look that catches your eye? I have a friend that started collecting blue and white china pieces in college, she now has the most beautifully decorated kitchen with all her pieces. It could be anything that you find appealing, once your family and friends get in on the fun, you will have so much fun finding a way to show off your collection.

Dolphins!! Love them, but I can't add anymore to my collection because of space issues. I have them in a curio cabinet in my living room and they are beautiful. Most of them are hand blown crystal, but I do have a few ceramic type ones as well.
