So What Happened?

well.....since Cheryl asked i bet that most people drank their milk, he said most dont. It all started because he left the milk in his bowl and i wondered why. It looks like there is no "most" but rather my side of it tips the scales a bit in my favor. But otherwise we are both technically wrong.

Nope! When I drink milk I like it cold, cold, right out of the fridge. When it's been sitting in the bowl with the cereal it's too warm and it has the cereal remnants so to me it just doesn't taste good.

Nope. Milk doesn't taste as drinkable to me when it has "cereal dust" in it. Besides, I'm *much* too much of a lady! ;^) So I use the spoon and, when I'm done, my cat drinks the rest of the milk out of the bowl.

Nope! I don't know why I guess it's b/c it tastes like the cereal or something? I love milk, but not in a bowl of cereal! When I was a kid I used to make sure to put very little milk in my cereal when I was at a friend's house, so I wouldn't have to worry about being forced to drink it. I still don't go overboard on the milk, so I guess a little does get wasted, but I just can't do it! :-)

My son & I don't eat cereal.
My husband drinks the milk.

Just wanted to add that I have heard that the "vitamins" in cereal are actually applied with a mist type spray, so if you're NOT drinking the milk--you're missing a good portion of those vitamins!

Only at home, because I'm sure drinking out of the bowl doesn't display proper table manners. LOL! However, I do drink the milk b/c I've read that a lot of the healthy grains end up in the milk. Therefore, in order to get your cereal's full health benefits, you have to drink the milk :)

Is there reallly any other way?? ;) I admit it, I do! An old b-friend back in college got onto me one day about that & said it wasn't civilized & i should spoon it out. I wasn't taught any different & really, I've never seen anyone spoon it out but I guess if I were out on the town & eating soup or cereal, I would spoon it out just because it's not my stuff (aka, public use of stuff) & don't like people staring but yes, at home I definitly drink it out of the bowl! I really don't see the problem w/it.

Oooh. I think I have to sit in the corner all by myself. I could not tolerate drinking the milk after the cereal. I find it really distasteful and would gag if I did. Also, I cannot add more cereal to the milk, because that too makes me gag because the milk is just too warm by then. I have become good at judging how much milk I use so I don't waste any. After my cereal, I have a teaspoon or two left. I either rinse it or see if my cat wants it.

No I think that's gross. I suppose if you're alone it's one thing, but in front of other people I would no sooner do that than I would pick up a bowl of soup and drink the remaining broth. I might spoon up the few remaining spoonfuls of milk but pick the bowl up and drink from it? Disgusting.

I wonder if one needs to be taught to drink the milk?

I grew up one of 7 kids, so no question, there was no wasting milk. We all drank it.

But...I've had to teach my own kids to drink and not throw it away. Otherwise, they would not drink it unless I insisted. And interestingly, if I weren't there to guide them, they'd throw the milk in the cereal bowl away, and then go and get another glass to drink? What's that about?

So, my generation's motto.....waste not, want not.
