JFF... How Old Was Your Child When They Slept in a Bed?

One of the other questions just made me realize... my 16 month old is still in a crib! HALLELUJAH!!

My 1st daughter was in a toddler bed by 10 months because she was a crazy ninja monkey baby and would climb out of her crib.

My 2nd daughter was in a toddler bed by 10 months, because her big sister (then 21 months) would climb INTO the baby crib, and lift her sister up and out... how nice ;) [eye roll!!]

My son, now 16 months.... YAAAAY HE'S STILL CONTAINED!! That's so great for me, LOL!! I can't believe he hasn't figured out how to escape... he climbs over the baby gates and can get on/off the couch...

So how old were your kiddos when they moved from the crib to a bed?

What can I do next?

over one for my older two and almost three for my littlest guy. The verdict is still out with him though. He has to come in and lay with us occasionally.

14 months. She was always tricky to get to nap, so at daycare, the teachers discovered she would sleep if they put her on a pad on the floor in the main room where it was noisy. If they put her in the "crib room" she would wake the others. Well, she decided she would ONLY sleep on the floor, so the crib was gone and she got a twin mattress on the floor at home!

My oldest daughter moved to a crib at 26 months. She never tried to climb out and until then she was a very active sleeper. I would put her to sleep and we would check on her an hour later and she would be sprawled sideways in the crib so I was afraid to move her to a toddler bed. I didn't want her to fall out if it. She only moved to a toddler bed when I became pregnant with my second one because we needed her to move to the toddler bed and then a twin size bed as soon as possible to the baby could have the crib. My youngest who turns 2 tomorrow is still in a crib as well. She has shown an interest in climbing out but only once and she wasn't successful. She sleeps like her sister and fights going to bed so the crib is a way to contain her at night and she will go to sleep within 10 minutes or realizing she isn't getting out. The toddler bed will allow her to get out of bed so I plan on keeping her in the crib for a little longer. I have known some kids moving to toddler beds much younger without problems but I feel that cribs are generally safer and in my daughter's case it is promoting her to fall asleep quickly.

My daughter was 2 years old (or around there) when I switched the crib from crib to a toddler bed. She was a climber but never climbed out of the crib, never tired, she liked the security of the crib.

Around age 4 we moved her from toddler bed, which she was quickly out growing, to a sinlge bed. The bed is up against the wall and has a bed rail on it, she still loves that enclosed security feeling.

My daughter is two and half and we JUST moved her to a bed. She loved her crib and never tried to get out so we just let her be. Finally she just got to tall and we got her a toddler bed.

My son, who will be 3 in august is STILL in his crib haha
He tried climbing out ONCE. He climbed up the side that was up against the wall. Well his lil leg got caught between the bed & the wall and he fell backwards. I ran in to see his lil leg pinned and him hanging upside down.
Scared the $&%&^ out of me!!
Thankfully, he only had a little bruise.
But since then, he has never tried to get out of his crib haha

But We promised him, when we move into our new house, he gets a Big boy bed. Maybe not RIGHT away, just in case he is scared in the new house.

My daughter is 2 and still hasn't figured out she can get out of the crib, until she climbs out, she's staying put. Hopefully this time next year we will be planning for baby number 2, so if she makes no effort to get out of the crib, she will be in it until she is 3.

I guess it really depends on the child. If u feel he is ready to be out then set him free. We put our daughter in a toddler bed at about 30 months only because we had moved right after her 2nd bday and her comfort was her crib and for christmas she got her big girl bed. She loved it and we have never had a problem getting out at night unless she is scared or rolled out of bed. Plus we needed the crib for the new baby. My advice would be to just do what feels right to u.

1 year and I loved it.
I wanted her out of my bed and into her own. She hated her crib. We've had no problems and she doesn't get up unless to come to our room (so no finding her on the kitchen counter or anything, lol). She's 2 now. =)

Do you mean slept in a bed the first time or slept in a bed all night?

My first 2 were out of their cribs as soon as they could climb up and over, which was definitely by 18 mos. Baby #3 had a crib but never slept in it at all...maybe twice for naps. We co-slept and nursed.

In hindsight I wish I would have never gotten a crib and just put a twin mattress on the floor so there would be no fear of them falling out and breaking their necks or something. I was always afraid when I found them standing and bouncing.

None of mine were ever in cribs (we have a family bed), and I didn't do the toddler bed thing, either. I figured it was just added expense. There's no reason a child can't go straight from Mom and Dad's bed or a crib to a twin bed (those bed rail jobs are great ideas, and I've loved mine).

We've always let our kids decide when they want to leave our bed and move to their own bed. Around two we buy them a bed and set it up, so it's ready for them whenever they want to move. Our oldest stayed in our bed until he was three. He still, very occasionally, will want to lay in our bed for a little before he goes to his own bed for the night, if he's sick. He's 13.

Baby #2 only stayed in our bed until he was not quite two. He never looked back and hasn't ONCE wanted to spend the night in our bed since. He's very independent. lol

Baby #3 stayed through her younger brother (#4) being born AND her younger sister (#5) being born. She was still in our bed until she was almost six. She, too, is no longer interested in being in our bed.

Baby #4 said he was NEVER moving out of our bed. At around five he moved out, but was in and out and in and out and in and out. lol He still joins us plenty of nights when he's scared/sick/overtired/just cranky. He's seven now.

Babies #5 (four years) and #6 (18 mos) still sleep with us. Baby #5 has shown some interest in her big girl bed, but hasn't managed to sleep a whole night in it, yet. Her big sister is in the room with her, and that helps. Sometimes she won't come back to our bed, but will crawl into bed with her sister. Thank God for big sisters that don't mind!

Yeah. We've got a menagerie around here. lol!

My son was 2 and the only reason we moved him to a twin bed was because he looked so big in a crib. It looked wrong ;) He's almost 3 now and he will not get out of his bed unless one of us is there to take him out. It's great and kinda cute because he'll sit in there (in a sweet voice) saying "mommy" or "daddy" until we come to get him. I don't think we'll be as lucky with number 2.

both mine went from crib to twin bed at 14 months. They didn't sleep all night and it was just easier to lay down with them for a few minutes in a twin bed. :)

My kids have always been in a bed....well sometimes it was a crib with one side off pushed up to our bed. We co-sleep with the little ones, then they transition to a twin bed. So, they really have never been contained. Once they learned how to get off the bed, they could be anywhere...gasp!!, LOL!

My daughter was 26 months when we introduced her toddler bed. She was content but would take off her wet diaper and toss over the rail... So we knew it was time to give her direct access to the bathroom. She was 4 when she moved into a real bed--with a box spring and mattress, it was quite high for her height; I wanted to make sure she could get in and out of it, half asleep and without falling before we put her in a real bed.

I moved the crib into the middle of the room and, since it no longer had a wall to help climb up, she couldn't climb out anymore.
