Jenny Craig/Digestive Issues

I was wondering if anyone out there who has been on Jenny Craig has developed any digestive issues. Sorry to be graphic, but both of my sister-in-laws have developed bloody/mucus/loose bowels. They both have been on Jenny Craig for some time. They are not blood related to each other and they live in different states. They only similarity I am noticing is that they were both on Jenny Craig. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this.

What can I do next?

From a health standpoint, I can't think of any food or additives which would cause bloody stools. But I would consider the possibility of a food-borne infection (possibly contaminated foods in the meals?)Could also be something like ulcerative colitis, Crohn disease, anal fissures, complication from medications, eating beets, who knows. In any case, it is a good idea to have your friend's report to their doctor for a diagnosis, and if it does turn out to be some sort of food-borne infection- to have it reported to the CDC so that the source can be investigated.

My mom did JC for too long and ended up with high blood pressure and cholesterol. It's not healthy food, way too much sodium.
Can you maybe find them a dietitian or nutritionist?
"JC Reps" are sales people first and foremost. Staying with the program as long as possible and bringing new people to it is their first priority. They aren't volunteers, nor are they trained in nutrition, they are trained in selling Jenny Craig.

Hi J.,
Does ulcerative colitis run in your family? If so...diet definately has something to do with it...despite what many say. Call or email me if you have any questions.

Actually, I recently had to stop Jenny Craig because I was experiencing such painful intestinal problems. I am extremely sensitive and know when there is something wrong. My body speaks to me, as I believe all our bodies speak to us, but not many people listen.
I am used to very healthy, organic foods for the most part. I do say that Jenny Craig's food is quite good, that is the frozen food. I really thought I could get away with it but soon knew I could not.
My wonderful counselor was so compassionate and understanding when I told her I had to stop eating the food. She told me that I could continue to come in and weigh myself but that she could not counsel me. I know that 99% for me is to be accountable and get on a scale every week, so that is what I am doing. I am also in the process of writing Jenny Craig (Nestles) about my experience. I am urging them to get with the times and start making these foods with unprocessed ingredients and organic when they can. This company would be so a head of the game if they got on board with this. I'm sure even Oprah would approve (I hope I'm not speaking out of line Oprah)! I just know that everything is changing on this planet and the quality of food that we put in our mouths is imperative.
Yes, it will be an investment for Nestles to makeover Jenny Craig's food but think of the outcome (not to mention the integrity) to be a shining light for so many. It is time this happened. If they don't do it, I'm sure someone will.
I know that many people will respond to this negatively with how expensive this program is etc. Just think how much health care costs? It is offensive to say the least. Healthy eating is the key (along with excercise) to create healthy, happy people.
Aloha All!

Yes, the food from Jenny Craig made my friend ill for four months. She saw her doctor because she thought maybe she had IBS. When she stopped eating the food, her issue resolved.

Hi,
A diet should not produce bloody stools. No matter what the diet is. Are they taking Ali (diet pills) as well. I took Ali and had loose stools but no blood. Are they taking any dietary supplements that you know of? Have they had any travel recently overseas or have had food poisoning? You should always follow up with you doctor for any GI bleeding. please encourage them to do this.

J.,

I worked as a weight loss cosultant and had several clients with similar issues. Jenny Craig is high in soy which can cause stomach/bowel issues in some people as they may be more sensitive to soy. I would speak with your Jenny Craig consultant or the Program Manager and ask that they review your health sheet and contact the nutrition department. Also a quick call to your PCP.
You also might want to test to see if it is the Jenny Craig food by going off the food for 2 days to see if the issues corrects itself and if it does you know that it is the food.
Hope that helps.

I don't have personal experience with Jenny Craig, but I would like to just share my opinion, perhaps it can point your friends in the right direction. I consider this common sense, I wonder how additives, artificial ingredients, added sugars, hydrogenated oils, and high fructose corn syrup (all of the above abundantly present in JC meals), can be part of any diet plan, and how do they call it "healthy"? These types of ingredients will wreak havoc on anyone's body, moreover someone who was unhealthy to begin with. A diet is about learning to eat right yourself, not relying on processed and artificial packaged foods to make it easy. Sure it takes some work, but the body will thank you when you feed it real food and normal portions (take a look at how an average European person eats, they barely have any obese people there). Just sticking to raw fruits and vegetables, some protein (eggs, chicken, beans), and whole grains, should do the trick with any weight problems; people are just too lazy. I don't know exactly what is wrong with the health of your sisters-in-law (although I am not surprised after researching Jenny Craig ingredients), but I recommend some body cleansing regimens, like spending a whole day eating only whole grain real bread with lots of lemon water (1 part lemon freshly squeezed, 4 parts clean drinking water). Also apple cider vinegar does wonders cleansing the body and restoring it(1 tablespoon vinegar, glass of water).
I don't know if this is much help, but that is my 2 cents :)

This is going to be a bit graphic right back...bowels get mucusy the longer they sit in your intestines. It's a good thing they are coming out...let them keep coming. The quicker you rid your body of this waste the faster you will be able to lose weight and curb your appetite. I'd watch the blood though...a lot is a sign for concern.

Good luck!

I was on Jenny Craig also and discontinued it in October and have been sick with dirreah since then. I can's stop the dirreah. I have spoken to a few other ladies who seem to have the same problem. My Dad remembered seeing the Maury show about 2 years ago with several ladies having the same issues. some ladies had to have their stomach scraped from all of the bacteria in there. My test results should be back next week. The Dr. did 4 biopsy's. I have lost 15 pounds since October with the illness.

I am now on a natural product where the whole thing is completely digested because of the digestive enzymes. It rids the body of toxins....side effect is weight loss...plus I have tons of enregy.
It has also helped a friend of mine who has IBS.

This is very GENTLE on the liver and digestive system.

Yes.. I have developed IBS from it. I though it was the best way to loose weight until i had to start running to potty.. I was on JC for about 3 months and lost 10 lbs and was soo happy, until i realized that after stopping the program, i've been left with this illness the past year after starting it. Is it coincendence? ..not likely as it is so high in lecithin and fiber.
I feel damaged the lining of stomach and the good flora..but hope we can get to the bottom of it and reverse it. Seeing doc this week.
